With a network of members across Canada, Development and Peace raises the awareness of Canadians about the causes of worldwide poverty and injustice and mobilizes Canadians around actions for change.

 

Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Director – Public awareness and engagement of the In-Canada Programs Department, the Catholic Schools Program Officer is responsible for leading and coordinating the Schools for DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE program. This program has a dual fundraising and outreach mandate: raising the organization’s visibility and presence within French and English Catholic schools to ultimately increase the organization’s capacity to develop fundraising and educational initiatives with schools.

 

The Catholic Schools Program Officer will help to develop and carry out the program’s strategic plan, and ensure that DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE’s youth programs are meeting the needs and interests of Catholic schools while fulfilling the organization’s priorities of renewing its membership through youth outreach and engagement.

 

 

Requirements

  

Academic background

  • University degree in the social sciences, education, public relations, or the equivalent

 

Languages

  • Command of written and oral English
  • Command of written and oral French (an asset)

 

Software and computer programs

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Powerpoint, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of online database tools (an asset)

 

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience working within French and English Catholic School systems
  • Experience in designing and writing curriculum
  • A minimum of 5 years experience with educational presentations
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in fundraising or marketing within schools or amongst youth publics
  • Experience managing volunteers
  • A minimum of 2 years experience with events planning
  • Experience making conference presentations, facilitating meetings and workshops

 

 

Specific knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of educational structures, policies, and Catholic curriculum, including Ontario’s graduate expectations regarding religious education ,
  • In-depth understanding of international development issues
  • Applied knowledge of youth engagement principles
  • Applied knowledge of fundraising principles
  • Familiarity with Development and Peace and its approach to international development
  • Knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching
  • Good knowledge of the Church and its involvement with social justice and international development
  • Good knowledge of social, economic, political, religious and cultural issues in Canada

Availability

  • Available to travel frequently throughout Canada
  • Available for occasional evening and weekend work
