Since 1928, Family Services of Greater Vancouver has been creating brighter tomorrows for people and families in our community. Last year we supported more than 13,000 people to create possibilities for themselves through professional counselling, therapy, education, advocacy, planning, employment support, and other community services. 


Directions Youth Services provides Vancouver’s homeless youth and youth at-risk with entry points to access the tools, support, and guidance they need to go about making healthy, positive changes in their lives. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Directions Youth Services consists of:


Directions Youth Services Centre provides Vancouver’s homeless youth and youth at-risk with a range of services to assist them to access housing, and increase health, life-skills and wellbeing. DYSC also encompasses our housing, outreach and transition to adulthood programs.

Directions Youth Detox offers youth with a continuum of service, which includes outreach, drop-in and assessment counselling and referrals, in-house detoxification, education and groups.

Directions Youth Safehouse is a first stage emergency shelter to assist youth to return to family/extended family and/or access needed transitional supports to independence.

Directions Youth Low Barrier Shelter is a first stage emergency shelter that provides safety to youth and work with them to return to family/extended family, access needed transitional supports to independence and/or treatment.


Job Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Program Manager of Directions Youth Low Barrier Shelter (DYLBS), this full time (35 hour/week, Tuesdays-Saturdays) position provides case management and staff supervision. With the support of the Clinical Program Manager, the position plans, develops, implements, and oversees client engagement strategies and the creation of individual service plans for youth. In addition, this position contributes to the ongoing supervision of staff including selection, performance management, discipline and dismissal. The Case Team Lead oversees the day-to day operations of DYLBS in the absence of the Clinical Program Manager and works in conjunction with management to develop and deliver goals and the objectives of the organization. The position is located at the DYLBS location, but travel to other sites is required.


Duties & Responsibilities

Program Delivery

  • Provides assessment, referral, and counseling services to individuals aged 19 years and under impacted by homelessness, mental health issues, addiction and/or trauma.
  • Leads the development of Individual Service Plans for youth and reviews client’s progress, makes adjustments to service plans as required and provides follow up planning.
  • Create rapport and trusting, non-judgmental relationships with youth.
  • Provide on floor support as needed.

Program Quality

  • Review monthly statistical and written client reports and records.
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks.
  • Assist Clinical Program Manager in writing reports on programs and services for Senior Management and for funders.
  • Adhere to all program and agency policies and procedures.  

Performance Management

  • Will assist the Clinical Program Manager of DYLBS with the following tasks:
    • Supervise and evaluate staff and monitor daily operations by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.
    • Hires staff, orients new staff and manages disciplinary matters up to and including dismissal
    • Identifies the needs of staff for professional development
    • Orients and provides training to volunteers and practicum students
    • Monitor program budgets and expenditures
    • Provides guidance, training and orientation on policies, procedures, report preparation or other matters arising in the program
    • Creates monthly staffing schedules and coordinates schedule updates
    • Coordinates the shopping and the purchasing required for the program
    • Plan and implement program activities and special events
  • Assumes responsibility of operations when the Manager of DYLBS is offsite
  • Performs other related duties as required




  • Bachelor’s degree in a related human / social service field required.
  • First Aid, FoodSafe level 1, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates required.



  • Minimum 3 years recent related experience
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Training or experience in addictions and youth work.
  • Thorough knowledge of adolescent development, at-risk youth and the child welfare system
  • Excellent organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Other Requirements

  • Successful completion of Criminal Record Check
  • Valid BC Drivers License - requires submission of abstract
