POSITION:  

Wraparound Counsellor, Wraparound Program 

DEPARTMENT:

Family and Settlement Services

POSITION FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Youth Programs, the Wraparound Counsellor provides clinical counselling to youth ages 13-18 who are at risk of engaging in criminal activities, and to their caregivers. Closely working with Wraparound Youth Workers, the Wraparound Counsellor monitors the progress of clients, develops and modifies counselling intervention strategies appropriate to the clients, and provides advocacy and referrals to MOSAIC services and other community services if necessary. The Wraparound Counsellor also closely works with the Vancouver Police Department and the Vancouver School Board, as well as other community partners.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge in the areas of mental health and addiction, immigrants and refugees, impact of racism and discrimination, child and youth development, family systems and dynamics, and culturally-oriented parenting strategies
  • Extensive knowledge of youth violence and justice, abuse and trauma, and community services and resources for youth and settlement in the Lower Mainland
  • A Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (MA or M.Ed with RCC) or a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW with RCSW)
  • Demonstrated skills in youth and family counselling, crisis intervention, and cultural competency
  • Strong time and data management skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum of 2-3 years working with at-risk youth and their caregivers in the counselling field
  • Experience working with at-risk youth in a school environment is an asset
  • Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check
    Flexibility in work hours according to youth and their families’ availability which may include evenings and weekends

 

HOURS:

17.5hrs per week

STARTING PAY:

$ 24.77 to $27.88/hr based on experience

A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
