e4c continuums of housing provide emergency shelter, transitional housing, and supportive housing for individuals experiencing mental health, addictions and/or trauma, and outreach services to re-integrate residents back into independent living in the community. Rapid Re-housing is a low-intensity housing first team and is part of the service delivery of Housing First in Edmonton. The program is designed to empower individuals through short-term housing stabilization intervention.

 

As Housing Outreach Worker, you will assist persons served in securing housing and financial benefits which make housing sustainable and participating in case management. You will provide resources to aid in housing sustainability through a collaborative exploration of a person’s strengths and barriers. This includes supporting the person served in finding and securing appropriate housing, mentoring the person to develop skills for positive landlord relationships and tenancy under the Residential Tenancy Act and providing resources for housing start-up necessities. You will work with Homeward Trust to create seamless transitions for individuals being referred to e4c Rapid Re-housing. Lastly you will participate in regular case management and best practices meetings.

Hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm, temporary full time position 40 hours per week for approx. 3 months.

In Your Role You Will

  • Promote e4c Rapid Re-housing’s services to potential property management organizations or landlords.
  • Provide support using a person centered, trauma sensitive and harm reduction framework.
  • Use intake, assessment, and referral skills and tools to assist in exploring strengths and barriers to
    community members obtaining housing.
  • Assist in navigating and accessing the appropriate funding bodies available for Albertans.
  • Coach and model for healthy relationships with landlords and other service providers.
  • Develop trust based relationships with persons served.
  • Provide support and guidance to persons served as they transition into housing.
  • Develop and maintain a database of landlord contacts.
  • Collect data and input as required for reporting purposes.

 Education and Certifications

Education/Certification

  • Diploma or degree in Community Support Worker, Social Work, Sociology, Criminology or Education. 

Required

  • Police Check with Vulnerable Sector.
  • Intervention Record Check.
  • Suicide Intervention.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Proof of vehicle insurance minimum $1 million liability, registration and 3 year drivers abstract.

 Recommended

  • Harm Reduction.
  • Aboriginal Awareness.
  • Protection of Sexually Exploited Children’s Act.
  • De-escalation.

Experience

  • 1+ year of experience working with marginalized populations, high risk and vulnerable populations.
  • Previous experience within the social services sector.
  • Previous experience working with Indigenous populations.
  • Working knowledge of harm reduction sexual exploitation, abuse and trauma, addictions, mental health, homelessness, inner city, and indigenous culture.
  • Demonstrated experience de-escalating crisis and potentially violent situations with individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol, under extreme stress &/or struggling with acute/chronic mental health crises.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, database applications and computer operation.
