The Program Assistant's primary responsibility is to work with the Program Coordinator to organize and deliver the e4c Make Tax Time Pay (MTTP) Program. MTTP runs tax clinics that offer free tax preparation and benefits application support. The Program Assistant would respond to emerging needs within the program and division to ensure that achievement of the service outcomes and objectives are conducted in an efficient, professional, and timely manner.

 

Hours:              

  • Full-time position from January 8, 2017 to May 31st, 2017 for 40 hours per week.
  • Typically during regular weekday hours but significant evenings and Saturdays from February to April will be required.
  • Requires a flexible schedule, occasional weekend work and last minute notification to travel.

In Your Role You Will

  • Organize and facilitate group training sessions for volunteers on tax filing and applying for government benefits.
  • Regularly visit multiple tax sites to engage volunteers, help with problem solving, and provide additional mentorship to volunteers
  • Coordinate volunteers to ensure community members are being supported in a way that represents the values and commitments of e4c
  • Assist tax sites within the Edmonton and surrounding area with solving tax questions, client challenges, and simple technical issues on an on call basis
  • Organize and deliver program supplies to tax sites in locations throughout the Edmonton area
  • Maintain excel spreadsheets of tax site supplies, activities, and volunteers
  • Input information from intake forms into excel, maintain confidentiality as directed by FOIP
  • Update forms and information sheets in preparation for tax season
  • Assist with the evaluation of the program

Education and Certifications

Required

  • High School Diploma
  • 1+ years of post-secondary education in Human Services, Community Development, or Education fields.
  • Must be able to pass CRA tax volunteer screening
  • Class 5 Driver’s License, reliable, registered vehicle, and valid vehicle insurance
  • Police Check with Vulnerable Sector.
  • Intervention Record Check.

Recommended

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Suicide Intervention
  • De-escalation

 Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience working with people experiencing poverty or marginalized populations
  • Experience navigating complicated government applications and various documents
  • Previous experience with basic financial concepts is required with a willingness to learn about tax filing
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Publisher, and Word is required
  • Experience with basic computer troubleshooting would be an asset (Windows, Internet Explorer)
