Senior Support Worker

Full Time

Location: Abbotsford

Fixed work schedule, Wednesday-Saturday

We are looking for a well-qualified Senior Worker to join our team, for a continuum of addictions care that includes: detox, structured support and stabilization recovery, to intensive treatment.

 

Primary Purpose: To establish rapport with women and ensure their safety and wellbeing on a daily basis through providing support, leading group activities, and participating in case management. While at work you will “live with” the women and engage in a shared cooperative model with staff and residents to care for the home, conduct daily living activities, and engage in educational and healing focused activities that support the wellbeing of women. You will work within a team model to support participants’ personal objectives and goals.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

To provide women with a positive group living environment in which they can plan for their futures and look after themselves. You will be responsible for schedules and supervises residence staff and monitors daily residence operations. In addition, you will work with clients on a personal level via individualized services planning as well group facilitation. Your goal is that women will develop a long term plan for themselves that addresses the full spectrum of their wellness needs.

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a 4 year post-secondary or/combination of diplomas in the field of social services
  • At least two year previous work experience in a residential environment is required for this position
  • Experience working with women with addiction issues
  • Motivational interviewing and group facilitation skills
  • Crisis intervention skills or training
  • WCB Level One First Aid, Food Safe Certificate

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mental health & alcohol/drug issues
  • Understanding of harm reduction and abstinence seeking with compassion philosophies
  • Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the field
  • Good time and general management skills
