Nutrition Policy Dietitian Opportunity

The objective of the position is to increase the quality of food for the GVFB community with a priority focus on members and agency partners.

The Nutrition Policy Dietitian is responsible for the development, application and operational support of nutritional policies, frameworks, standards, tools, guidelines and evaluative metrics that support an increase in the nutritional quality of food the GVFB accepts, purchases, uses and distributes.

The position embodies a participatory and collaborative philosophy of practice which prioritizes health literacy, social justice, food literacy and food security.

The Nutrition Policy Dietitian will be a resource across departments to support nutrition related inquiries. The position supports communications internal and external to the organization regarding policies, standards, tools and resources used to reinforce our goal to increase the quality of food. This includes food used in education and training workshops.

A holistic and interdepartmental approach is necessary to be successful in this role.

Employment Requirements:

  • Registered Dietitian. Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
  • Preferred 3 years of experience with Public Health.
  • Preferred 5 years of experience working within food security environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with marginalized people and with people of diverse cultures and abilities in a community based setting.
  • Proven experience in working within a team environment to achieve successful results.
  • Food Safe Level One certification.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.  
  • Ability to speak and write more than one language an asset

Physical Requirements:

  • May need to organize and carry kitchen equipment and food items to support outreach nutrition education workshops in the community. Carry weight up to 25 kg/50 lbs.

Other Information:

  • Permanent part-time, 3 days per week, 7.5 hour days
  • Full benefits package, including sick time, vacation starting at 3 weeks per year (pro-rated), birthday day off - after 6 months
