Job Summary


As a Child & Youth Counsellor Advocate’s you will be required to work rotating shifts and your overall responsibility is to assist the children who seek shelter services to deal with the impact of violence on their lives by:

  • Providing timely and responsive client services relevant to their needs to facilitate trauma recovery throughout the clients’ residency
  • Challenging attitudes and behaviors that contribute to the perpetuation of violence and female-male stereo types and oppression
  • Facilitating conflict resolution
  • Performing administrative duties

Note: Some light physical activity is required eg. sanitization of toys and equipment, cleaning backyard, light lifting, climbing stairs etc.                                                                                                                                                            


Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Relevant education and/or related experience in programs for child and youth
  • Experience in providing informal counselling and advocacy for child and youth
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of issues affecting women and children who have experienced abuse and resources to support them.
  • Skills and experience in program planning and implementation
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills and experience
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and foster reliable work relationships within a diverse work environment
  • Consistent ability to demonstrate professional behavior and respect for boundaries
  • Ability to manage conflicts
  • Proven analytical and reporting skills
  • Demonstrated administrative skills in database and client case management
  • Observation of strict confidentiality
  • Capable of managing own emotional difficulties
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access and ability to use client case management database
  • Must be flexible with workdays and hours of work
