Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the overall financial management of the Family Services’ Employment Service Centre (ESC) program. The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in managing the Contract and Financial System and the Ministry Work BC system with an emphasis on revenue management. This Position supports the ESC management team and monitors the financial systems, policies, processes and procedures. This position is also responsible for the financial management of Family Services’ two Social Enterprise programs.

Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee ESC Financial Management and the Ministry Employment Program Systems and monitor policies and procedures to ensure financial accuracy within these systems
    • Prepare financial reports and claims to funders and ensure all monthly deadline are met
    • Assists in the preparation of working paper files for the year-end audit
    • Meet with funders and auditors related to financial controls and management
    • Manage the financial portion of the program contracts
    • Keep track of revenues and expenses of the programs
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly program forecasts and variance analysis and give recommendations for improvement
    • Prepare monthly program financial statements
    • Supervise one staff performing daily administrative and accounting tasks
  • Responsible for the accuracy of invoices and payments
  • Assist with budget preparations, contract proposals and funding applications
  • Contribute to overall business planning and strategy setting
  • Make recommendations on improving existing financial processes and systems
  • Oversee and manage day to day financial controls within the program
  • Liaise and provide support to management and staff regarding financial matters as require
  • Provide financial advice, information and guidance as well as training and support to program staff regarding financial policies and procedures
  • Follow up with the collection process when an ESC client overpayment has been identified
  • Respond to programs’ financial inquiries
  • Manage the ESC program client payment through payroll system
  • Other duties as required

Abilities

  • Strong time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to explain and discuss financial information with others who have limited subject matter knowledge
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to embrace and foster continuous improvement in the department

 Experience & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years general accounting experience
  • In senior level of CPA (CMA, CGA, CA) program
  • 1-3 years account reconciliation experience and producing detailed variance analysis
  • Strong understanding of accounting and reporting in the not-for-profit sector
  • Strong excel skills
  • Experience with Adagio is an asset
  • Knowledge of Payworks Payroll System is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Ministry Employment Program System is an asset
  • Supervisory experience is an asset
