Hydrocephalus Canada is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization through this transformation and beyond.

Organization

Hydrocephalus Canada is a national, non-profit, charitable organization that grew out of the Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Association of Ontario.  Our mission is to empower, enable, and passionately advocate for Canadians living with Hydrocephalus, with the unrelenting goal of finding a cure.  We are seeking a passionate and compassionate leader who will help the staff and board transform this organization into one that helps us attain our vision: Empowering and enabling Canadians to overcome Hydrocephalus.

Position Overview

The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and be responsible for strategic leadership, fundraising, fostering relationships, and providing oversight to operational activities of the organization.  The Executive Director will also lead a small team responsible for the program delivery and administration of the organization.

This key role will be responsible for:

  • Building on and implementing the existing strategic plan for Hydrocephalus Canada which includes moving from a provincial to national platform
  • Harnessing the skills and influence of the Hydrocephalus Canada board in support of our mission
  • Fund raising program: securing funding/sponsorships by building impactful relationships with strategic partners
  • Leading and providing oversight to activities in support of finding a cure, including:
    • bringing together impactful experts in the medical community
    • fostering and sharing research
    • identifying and securing champions/sponsors
  • Leading and providing oversight to activities in support of enabling and empowering our communities, including:
    • championing activities focused on improving the quality of healthcare
    • providing resources and education
    • fostering support networks for all Canadians affected by hydrocephalus and/or spina bifida
  • Reporting progress and bringing key matters and opportunities to the Board
  • Developing and executing a plan to transition SBHAO services and support while maintaining quality support for members and the community
  • Working with the Treasurer to set and monitor annual budgets and resource plans
  • Guide the development of and compliance with the organization's governance policy
  • Compliance with applicable legislation

 

Required Skills

This leadership role will require a wide range of skills including:

  • A demonstrated passion for improving the quality of support and healthcare for Canadians
  • Proven ability organizing successful  national level awareness and fundraising initiatives
  • Solid knowledge of accounting, budgeting and financial management
  • Proven ability to obtain corporate sponsorships and/or donations
  • Strong knowledge in health funding and research opportunities on a federal level
  • Good executive presence/presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with wide range of stakeholders
  • Able to identify risks and advise accordingly
  • Able to work within the timelines provided by the Board of Directors and Advisory Committee
  • Familiarity with neurological conditions including spina bifida and hydrocephalus will be considered an asset
  • Previous experience with organizational restructuring (preferably with a health related non-profit organization) will be considered an asset
  • Fluency in French will be considered an asset

 

Working Conditions

Depending on experience of applicant, position can be held on a full time or part-time basis. Additional work from time to time may be required on weekends and evenings to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at special events.  Occasionally travel may be required.
