The Support Worker at Meadows Place and Our Place is responsible for ensuring the overall safety and care of the residents during their shift. This is a friendly and supportive environment. The support worker is part of the service team at Meadows Place and Our Place and reports to the Site Manager.

 

Hours: Flexible hours determined by program needs.

 In Your Role You Will

  • Provide appropriate support to satellite house residents through provision of basic needs with adherence to program policies and practices.
  • Build rapport, supervise and support residents.
  • Creates and encourages residents to participate in recreational activities.
  • Acts as a link with residents and other service providers.
  • Assists with intake process, maintaining service care plans, other documentation, communication and general supervision with residents.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy living environment and adherence to safety and security protocols.
  • Monitors and maintains all documentation and ensures appropriate file management procedures are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned

 Education and Certifications

  • Some post-secondary training in a human service field AND 6 months of related work experience.
  • Current Police Information Check and Child Intervention Checks.
  • Current Standard First Aid& CPR
  • Medication Administration
  • Food Safety Course
  • Current Suicide Intervention

 Required:

  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Recommended:

  • Harm Reduction
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Cultural Competency
  • Trauma Informed Practice

Experience

  • Ability to build, maintain, and model healthy relationships
  • Can demonstrate a respectful and collaborative approach
  • Ability to work in various homes within Meadows Place and Our Place. Ability to provide leadership and make decisions related to complex circumstances.
  • Empathetic, enthusiastic team player that possesses the ability to work with initiative and independence.
  • Demonstrated ability to mediate and resolve conflict.
  • The ability to work with initiative and independence.
  • Working knowledge of community resources available to participants.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of inner city, homelessness, poverty, mental health, addiction, prostitution, abuse and multicultural issues.
  • Awareness of and desire for reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

 Competencies
