Senior Director

The YMCA of Northern Alberta is a charitable, mission based organization dedicated to the development of thousands of people in spirit, mind and body. The YMCA Welcome Village was built in central Edmonton to address the increasing need for affordable housing, childcare and easily accessible family supports. The YMCA Welcome Village provides affordable housing at the Melcor YMCA Village, Child Care at the Shirley Stollery YMCA, family and children’s programs and resources at the YMCA Family Resource Centre.

Position Summary

 

The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking an enthusiastic individual to work alongside the Centre Manager to provide effective development and management of participant programs and services for the YMCA Family Resource Centre locate at the YMCA Welcome Village. The Senior Director directs the staff complement, manages an approved budget, and creates, monitors, and evaluates programming. The Senior Director carries out his or her duties in a professional manner and in accordance with all YMCA policies and procedures, standards of conduct and practice, health and safety standards, and contractual, legal and regulatory requirements. The Senior Director works closely with and builds partnerships with the Boyle Street Community League, assigned funders and partners, contractors and community stakeholders.

 

The successful candidate will represent the YMCA of Northern Alberta with peers in the Edmonton social housing, human services, community services environment, foster relationships with other relevant service providers and service delivery partners and support the integration and alignment of the staff and services with the vision and mission of the YMCA of Northern Alberta.

 

A willingness to work a flexible schedule is required as shifts may vary and will include evenings and weekends and on call. This position is classified as a maternity leave position.  There will be cross over with the current employee.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build an effective staff team: Recruit, hire, train, coach, supervise and manage all full-time and part-time staff, students, and volunteers within assigned program areas.
  • Provide leadership to program service delivery and development to meet the needs of program participants and the community
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and partners to ensure effective program development and delivery
  • Manage and evaluate programs against defined financial and programmatic outcomes, goals and objectives.
  • Recommend quality improvements and best practice strategies to current programs, processes, strategies, tools and ensure implementation of approved changes.
  • Develop, manage and monitor approved budgets and program financial operations to meet contractual obligations and financial targets and to achieve effective and efficient operations.
  • Represent the YMCA with key program stakeholders, community agencies, educational and business stakeholders to identify needs, manage referrals, coordinate solutions and integrate programs and services.
  • Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, and values and the YMCA programs and services.

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

  • University Degree in a Human Services or equivalent
  • Annual registration in a professional organization as required by law if applicable.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Child Intervention Check & Police Security Clearance
  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License, cleared driver’s abstract and vehicle.

Experience

  • 3-5 years directly related professional experience in program delivery and program management and administration.
  • 3–5 years staff and volunteer supervision.
  • 3-5 years of direct professional experience in a team environment
  • Experience with fund development activities, reporting and proposal writing.
  • Experience in community collaboration and partnerships.
  • Experience and knowledge of cultural and minority groups, special or high needs populations and other marginalized persons.
  • Experience working with persons facing barriers that may include mental health, addictions and low income.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and team skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of program development, planning and promotion, outcome evaluation, budgeting and financial management, and marketing and public relations.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in individual and family assessment, case management, group work and group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in best practices utilized by the YMCA including Executive Coaching, Healthy Child and Adolescent Development, Play to Learn, Triple P, housing continuum, harm reduction and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledge of related community, education, youth and human services resources.
  • Sensitive to and demonstrated knowledge of dealing with the needs of participants from different cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Competencies consistent with the YMCA Competencies Document at Senior-Level.
  • Competent Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Outlook).
