Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) is an award-winning, accredited not-for-profit that has served the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley for over 30 years. Our participants are often vulnerable or marginalized from society. PCRS is committed to integrated service delivery which is people-centred, inclusive, collaborative, and evidence-based. PCRS has an annual operating budget of approximately 24 million; employs nearly 350 staff; and engages over 200 volunteers.


The Pathways to Education Program™ is a national program, operating in 20 communities across Canada and provides a comprehensive set of academic, social, financial, and individual supports to youth. The primary goal of the Pathways to Education Program TM is to enhance the educational success of youth living in the Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and Strathcona and Surrey’s Whalley and Guilford communities. In particular, it seeks to address barriers to success in high school by providing youth with social, academic, financial and advocacy supports.


The Pathways program has been operating in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside & Strathcona neighbourhood for three years, and has now expanded to Surrey as of the 2017 school year!


Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic individual to provide overall reception and administrative support services for the Pathways team, in both Vancouver and Surrey locations. Applicant will be friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental and thrive in a positive, progressive atmosphere, respecting and valuing the diversity of communities and individuals. This position requires working in a manner that incorporates health promotion and recognizes the determinants of health, while striving to strengthen collaborative and interdisciplinary team work. The Administrative Assistant also supports the maintenance of a multitude of partnerships with stakeholders, including schools, community-based organizations, and other partners. Finally, this position requires working in a manner that preserves participant confidentiality and will seek to minimize this risk as per privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be skilled and experienced connecting with diverse communities, including Aboriginal, newcomer, immigrant, and LGBTQ youth to ensure they feel safe, supported and connected.




Primary Duties:

  • Provides administrative support to the Manager of Pathways and the Pathways staff team in both Vancouver and Surrey locations
  • Support in the maintenance and enhancement of filing systems, meeting coordination, communication mechanisms, and the development of systems to ensure efficiencies
  • Providing administrative support at meetings involving the community, Pathways to Education staff, and advisory committees including meeting minutes and other supports
  • Respond to community inquiries regarding the program
  • Maintaining the program database by entering data, supporting analysis, and generating reports required by funders and others
  • Provide key administrative support for program student registration process
  • Produce materials for program promotion and administration
  • Assists with program communication to youth, parents, partners and funders (e.g. mail-outs, social media)
  • Operational coordination of off-site locations – ordering supplies, coordination of site maintenance, office equipment, etc.
  • Provides training and ongoing support to program staff regarding computer software applications
  • Creates and modifies program-specific computer templates/forms as required.
  • Receives all telephone calls; provides information or redirects as appropriate.
  • Attends program, general staff and other meetings, including those in the community, as requested and takes minutes as appropriate
  • Promotes awareness of and participation in activities at Broadway Youth Resource Centre (BYRC) and the Guildford Youth Resource Centre (GYRC) and in the community
  • Contributes to BYRC work by participating in meetings and committees
  • Works during both regular and extended hours of operation, if necessary
  • Coordination of Occupational Health and Safety requirements for program sites
  • Greets all visitors in a warm, welcoming, patient and non-judgmental fashion


Academic and Job Experience Required:

  • Three to five years reception and administrative support experience, preferably in a community-based setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and CRM tools.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth considered an asset.
  • Experience working in the Downtown Eastside and Strathcona and the Whalley and Guildford communities an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and in two different program sites.
  • Preference given to those with post-secondary school diploma in office administration, or related program or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in English essential; additional languages are an asset.


Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector.
  • Valid level 1 first aid certificate will be an asset.
