Victoria Community Micro Lending Society


The Victoria Community Micro Lending Society (CML) is seeking an experienced and qualified community builder with a passion for working with people for a one-year contract position as Executive Director. The position will start as a part time position in January, with expected start date in the role of Executive Director in April 2018.

January – March 2018

  • Facilitate an Indigenous youth entrepreneur training program (approximately 3 hours per week in class instruction)
  • Work with the current ED for 1-2 hours per week to learn the position, occasionally working a few hours more in order to attend outreach events with the ED

April 2018 - March 2019

  • Perform all duties of ED as outlined below
  • 25-30 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend work required

Job Summary

Reporting to the board of directors, the primary objective of the Executive Director is to manage and lead the overall operations of the organization. The Executive Director is expected to perform the duties of the position consistent with CML’s Mission.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operations and success of the organization.  He/she is expected to:


  • Manage the day to day operations of CML
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the budget, ensuring all financial decisions are in keeping with the goals of organization
  • Manage and secure financial resources to support the organizational viability and growth required to meet strategic objectives
  • Continuously scan the environment to keep abreast of emerging developments in the broader work context
  • Identify, explore and pursue new sources of revenue
  • Manage all contracts, agreements and legal obligations of the organization
  • Create grant applications, often in collaboration with other local non-profit organizations
  • Manage fundraising activities including a large fundraising event
  • Create and maintain digital outreach including quarterly newsletters, website maintenance and updates, and social media
  • Provide entrepreneur training programs to marginalized populations
  • Guide clients through the application process and in the creation of a business plan



Relationship Management


  • Create and maintain positive relationships with local non-profit organizations, professional organizations, and various levels of government
  • Perform local outreach activities including presentations
  • Enhance the organization’s profile and reputation by developing and expanding partnerships and alliances
  • Be the first point of contact for all potential loan clients and work with them in a sensitive manner, being considerate of their particular situation


People Management


  • Oversee mentor programming, including recruitment, screening and ongoing management
  • Develop and manage volunteer program
  • Select and hire employees or contractors as required


Qualifications and Skills


  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership, interpersonal and management skills
  • Financial management and budget development skills
  • Post secondary education in Business Administration or a related area is preferred
  • Strong computer skills, especially with excel
  • Proven ability to work with entrepreneurs
  • Proven ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds


  • Able to provide timely and concise information and to respond effectively to inquiries, issues and concerns both orally and in writing
  • Able to express and present thoughts, opinions, preferences and complex ideas clearly, succinctly and in an understandable manner
