The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is looking for a Development Manager based in Vancouver, B.C to cover a maternity leave beginning March 1st 2018 to February 28, 2019 with possibility of extension. Reporting to the Vice-President of Operations, the Development Manager will be responsible for writing and producing persuasive fundraising materials, preparing grants proposal, executing and administering fundraising programs, conducting marketing research, and identification, solicitation and stewardship of sponsors/donors to support annual fundraising efforts.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Works with the VP, Operations, to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of sponsors/donors
  • Generates revenues through the timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented fundraising / grant proposals
  • Creates content and materials for use in ad-hoc development and marketing projects
  • Works with the research team on grants and government funding proposal preparation and submission
  • Engages in sponsor/donor relations and facilitates correspondence at all stages of the donor cycle
  • Ensures donor recognition, acknowledgement and stewardship programs are in place, including acknowledgement in the Annual Report
  • Conducts research, and prepares backgrounders, briefing notes and prospect lists for senior management
  • Develops sponsor/donor proposals and related literature to generate gifts for priority projects including development and execution of strategic events to support fundraising and stakeholder relations
  • Ensures databases (Raiser Edge et al) are up to date on all donation activities
  • Performs other related duties as required


  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in Marketing, Communications, Economics, or Fundraising
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related capacity and discipline
  • Must have excellent and demonstrable written and verbal communication skills, and a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to write articulately and persuasively are essential
  • Knowledgeable of Canada-Asia relations is essential
  • Ability to foster community relationships and generate fundraising opportunities
  • Strong time-management skills in meeting deadlines, and the ability to prioritize and work under pressure
  • Ability to identify issues through effective problem solving skills
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) an asset
