We are excited to be recruiting for several positions within our Directions Youth Services program.

 

Directions Youth Services provides Vancouver’s homeless youth and youth at-risk with entry points to access the tools, support, and guidance they need to go about making healthy, positive changes in their lives. Job Summary

 

As a Youth Worker you would serve homeless, at risk, street-involved youth and take a leadership role in tone-setting and maintaining a safe environment. You will provide guidance and information to the youth promoting safety and, where possible, assist in their transition from the street to healthier, alternative lifestyles. Additionally, you will support the team in a leadership role when necessary.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Identify individual needs for youth accessing the centre and provide support, encouragement, collaboration and education to clients in matters related to crisis intervention, harm reduction, conflict resolution, community resources, alcohol and drug information, and advocacy to clients and referral calls utilizing youth social work best practice
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all of FSGV Youth Services, other community agencies, and government ministries as appropriate in the development of youth case management.
  • Maintain accurate logs, record keeping, and data entry related to youth files and statistics.
  • Responsible for reading youth files and ensuring information is accurate, current and clear.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of current best practices and available resources.
  • Ensure clear and concise communication and information transfer to colleagues and management including shift change.
  • Participates in the management of emergency situations by initiating first aid, calling emergency medical services, and/or police and defusing situations.

 

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years post secondary course/diploma/certificate in social work or youth care or other related education, plus 2 years’ recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current First Aid certification preferred.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Food Safe Certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of issues/needs of high risk and/or street-involved youth.

Working Conditions

  • Willingness and ability to work shift work- including awake overnights, days, evenings, weekends and weekend overnights
