Community Education Program Coordinator

The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (SSA) is a not-for-profit organization that improves quality-of-life and provides information and support programs for Albertans affected by schizophrenia and related disorders. The Society also works to increase public awareness and understanding of schizophrenia while reducing stigma and discrimination due to this illness. SSA offers quality programs and services based out of our six branches throughout the province of Alberta. We are very proud of our three housing facilities that provide housing for people living with serious mental illness and at risk of homelessness.

The SSA has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Community Education Program Coordinator for the Calgary Branch. The Program Coordinator is responsible for the management, implementation, coordination and evaluation of all aspects of the Community Education Program within the Calgary Branch.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the Community Education Program (CEP) including promotion and arranging presentations
  • Recruiting and training new presenters, and work with volunteers
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings
  • Promote, raise awareness and gain referrals for the programs through relationships with other community agencies and other promotional activities
  • Maintaining statistical data and preparing monthly / annual reports
  • Administrative duties related to the programs as required


  • Degree or Diploma in the Human Services field (social work, psychology, and other social service or health related fields).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in an acute or community mental health setting.
  • Strong knowledge of schizophrenia or psychosis, other Axis I diagnosis, mental health legislation and community resources.
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate empathy and compassion as well as a commitment to life-long learning.
  • Ability to manage and support others positively in their work
  • Support the commitment to enhance the well-being of the mental health population and the initiatives to reduce stigmatization within the community.

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week, $24.00 an hour
