SHIPPING & RECEIVING ASSISTANT 

 

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Manager of Retail Operations, the incumbent is responsible for receipt and inventory of incoming shipments of merchandise for the Vancouver Art Gallery Gift store.  The incumbent is responsible for input of merchandise data into the Point of Sales system.  The Shipping & Receiving Assistant plays a key role in contributing to effective inventory management.  The incumbent organizes and replenishes stock in response to sales, assists management with inventory reporting, performs cycle counts, and assists with the maintenance of the Point of Sale database and ensures its integrity.

 

DUTIES:

  • Receives shipments of merchandise into the warehouse in appropriate receiving priority.
  • Unpacks and checks goods against packing slips and invoices.  Marks incoming goods with label codes and prices.  Carries goods from loading bay to basement store room for processing.  Carries goods from basement store room to Galley store and store stock room.
  • Enters new inventory and purchase orders into the Point of Sales system ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Performs supply counts and alerts the Gallery store managers when store room supplies are low.
  • Produces inventory reports in order to replenish stock in all sales locations to ensure inventory accuracy.  Takes correct action to correct inventory discrepancies.
  • Take part in year-end inventory procedures and is responsible for warehouse count integrity.
  • In consultation with Manager of Retail Operations and the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for all on-line orders.
  • Responsible to any special orders that cannot be processed by Gallery store staff.
  • Sells and processes wholesale orders.
  • Manages the artist edition inventory, organizing and packaging for customer sales.

 

  • Responsible for contacting vendors in regards to any damaged merchandise received and processes the returns.
  • Maintains and organizes products and supplies in the warehouse and stockrooms
  • Communicates with Managers and staff regarding any inventory related issues or priorities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of the twelfth grade, plus two years experience working in a retail setting with solid shipping, receiving and sales experience. Having worked in a high volume store selling art-related items, you will have experience and knowledge of receiving merchandise, invoice checking, packaging techniques, completion of packing slips and mailing procedures. Applicants must be self-motivated, able to accept responsibility and work well with minimal supervision in a high pressure retail setting. Must have effective communication and time management skills.  The work requires physical stamina to carry out sustained activities of carrying, lifting and positioning heavy boxes, pushing and pulling stacked boxes via a dolly and unpacking loads onto storage shelves. In addition, the incumbent will establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse public and work for long hours in a standing position. Point-of-sale system experience, strong merchandising skills and data entry are essential. A demonstrated interest in the visual arts is also required.

 

SALARY:  Pay Grade 14, Step 1 $19.82 per hour

HOURS:   5 days per week, 7 hour days

                  January 8th to June 1st, 2018
