The BC Wildlife Federation (BCWF) is the largest and most influential conservation organization in BC.  As a province-wide non-profit charitable association with over 50,000 members and more than 110 Member Clubs, our organization represents the interests of all British Columbians whose aims are to conserve and protect BC’s fish, wildlife and habitat for present and future generations. 

We are currently searching for a Manager, Marketing and Communications to lead the development of strategic marketing and communication plans to ensure implementation of campaigns and initiatives to bring awareness of the organizations mandate, programs and the financial obligations of BCWF.  This is a new position and initially will be very hands on while you form and develop the department and its role.  You will research best practises and develop strategic initiatives to create the department, plan work functions and hire your team.


Duties and Responsibilities will include:



  • Lead to build and strengthen the internal team, creating a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Write official correspondence on behalf of the Board, and committees as appropriate and jointly with the Director of Corporate Operations and Board when appropriate
  • Develop a working relationship with clear guidelines for the style and governance of all communication to members and the public.
  • Coach direct reports and other team members with basic practices directives and be a sounding board when needed.

External and Internal Communications

  • Create, implement and evaluate communications strategies and plans that align with the organization’s strategic plan and its key stakeholders.
  • Create goals and set measurable objectives to meet the public’s awareness of the BCWF objectives.
  • Monitor effectiveness of in-market materials and evaluate trends, ensure message accuracy, analyze and apply market research.
  • Plan media launches and act as or work with designated spokesperson and coordinate interviews for media. Proactively seek media coverage for newsworthy initiatives.
  • Oversee and maintain social medial approach for BCWF, utilizing all relevant forms of media, including; providing status updates on Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites with the goals of increasing awareness, driving traffic to the BCWF website and increasing membership and donations.
  • Develop and direct meaningful content for the website, newsletters and blogs. Develop boiler place FAQ and other material as required.
  • Provide support to the Director of Corporate Operations, President and Board on media and community engagement.

Marketing and Promotions

  • Leadership roll in the development of a new website.
  • Manage the BCWF website and its content.
  • Oversee and manage the design elements of the BCWF website (banners, ads, graphics, images, videos, etc.)
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the website using analytic software and make changes as required.
  • Oversee the design and update BCWF promotional materials as required.
  • Determine media requirements for annual campaigns, using campaign strategy, determine budget and plan.
  • Work with BCWF staff to write grant applications for funding.

Communications and Social Media

  • Create and implement communication pieces for the BCWF in various advertising, promotional materials, social media, website and other communication avenues.
  • Create member e-updates and Board e-updates, monthly club e-updates, monthly club mailers (print and electronic) and content development for the monthly newsletter (print and electronic), bi-monthly BCWF section in BC Outdoors Magazine, Annual Report and other applicable specialty communications.
  • Research and develop content for the BCWF Social media sites. Curate/manage content on partner sites. Provide status updates on all applicable social media sites and drive traffic to the BCWF website.
  • Proactively seek media coverage for newsworthy initiatives. Develop press releases, fact sheets and backgrounders. Plan media launches; act as, or work with, designated spokesperson and coordinate interviews for print, TV and radio, develop media relationships and manage/maintain the media contact database.
  • Produce all print, and promotional materials related to the AGM & Convention, in accordance with the annual theme and in keeping with overall BCWF graphics standards, including programs, posters, tickets, power point presentations, etc. 


  • 5 + years leading, marketing & communications, specializing in relationship building and program promotion.
  • 5 + years writing communication pieces for magazines, blogs, campaigns and grants.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating communication plans and marketing collateral materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of members, donors, 3rd Party fundraisers, and business partners in order to cultivate and sustain relationships.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and a solid understanding of governance issues.
  • Experience developing an effective marketing, communications fundraising and membership programs.
  • Must complete a Provincial Crime Record check
  • Well-honed financial, human resources and program management expertise.
  • Proficiency working in a Windows/Microsoft environment, including Word. Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint & Access, Adobe Acrobat and social media platforms.
