About Toronto Wildlife Centre

Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC), a registered charity, is the only wildlife centre in the Greater Toronto Area and the busiest in Canada. Approximately 5,000 wild animals are admitted to the centre each year representing over 270 different species of wildlife.  Dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, and to educating the public on wildlife-related issues, TWC was the first wildlife centre in Canada with a full veterinary hospital and the only one with a dedicated wildlife rescue program, and is open 365 days a year.

Position Summary

TWC is operated by a small group of highly skilled, paid staff, supported by several hundred volunteers who work in all areas, from wildlife care to administration.  Volunteers range from teenagers to seniors and come from all walks of life; some have been giving their time freely for many years and new volunteers are joining us regularly.

Working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator, the Assistant Volunteer Coordinator will assist with; management of the volunteer team, coordination and development of the volunteer program and liaising with other TWC programs and external organizations as needed.  This position requires experience working with volunteers, a strong administrative background, multitasking, and the ability to prioritize and communicate well in a fast-paced environment. As an environmental organisation working with hundreds of species, including some at-risk species such as Blanding’s turtles, we could not do our critical work without our volunteers. This is why the Assistant Volunteer Coordinator role is so important; to support our volunteers and act as a resource during their dedicated time at the centre.

Canada Green Corps is UNA-Canada’s innovative new youth employment programme designed to bridge talented, yet un- and underemployed, Canadian youth to meaningful employment to ignite Canada’s green economy. This position is being funded through ESDC (Employment & Social Development Canada); in addition to other requirements, eligible candidates must:

  1. Have graduated from a post-secondary institution within the last 3 years
