Hera is a specialized education program with therapeutic supports for adolescent girls who are at risk of being sexually exploited. The program embraces a therapeutic, relationship-focused approach to support girls at-risk to develop skills, commit to their education, re-examine their lives, and move forward in a positive direction.
The Family Connections Worker works collaboratively with the Hera staff team to preserve the family unit, ensure the safety of all family members and promote family functioning.  The Family Connection Worker assists family members in creating the conditions for the youth to stay at home and to increase healthy connections to community.  Family support services are provided in the family home and community in accordance with the service plan and client goals. The Family Connection Worker also provides referrals to community resources and supports.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Attends all staff meetings and training seminars as directed by Program Coordinator
  • Creates and maintains a positive, supportive, and rewarding work environment
  • Works effectively with other members of the team to meet the individual needs of all youth in the program as well as their families
  • Meets with the Coordinator required for clinical supervision
  • Ensure the inclusion of appropriate family members in case planning
  • Assists youth and their families in developing problem solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills
  • Advocates for youth and their families to promote increased family functioning
  • Ensures that all documentation is kept current, complete, and professional.  Conveys pertinent information regarding youth and their families to the team in a timely manner
  • Manages crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills
  • Bachelor of Social Work or a related degree
  • Must have experience working specifically with families experiencing challenges with adolescents
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, organizing, planning, and analytical skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, acceptable Driver’s Abstract and access to automobile 
  • Use of a reliable vehicle with $1,000,000 liability, permission to carry passengers and business coverage on the vehicle
  • Current certification for First Aid and CPR 
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check
Please Note: Successful candidates will complete criminal record check and child intervention record check at the time of new hire paperwork.  A criminal record check and child intervention record check dated within 6 months of the interview date will also be accepted.
