Are you a passionate and creative individual looking to implement culturally relevant programs for Indigenous male youth aged 12-21?  Are you ready to make a positive impact in the community?
Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.
As the Iiyika’kimaat Programmer in the Indigenous Initiatives stream, a typical day might include:
  • Planning and implementing age-appropriate activities based on assigned core program area with a focus on the Circle of Courage framework, self-esteem, leadership, identity and social skills
  • Working with other Indigenous Initiatives staff to provide appropriate referral supports to Indigenous youth and their families
  • Working with the club teams, elders, schools, families, and community partners to  create innovative programs
  • Reaching out to Indigenous youth or youth programs to garner participation in programming
  • Maintaining specific program and member statistics and ensuring client records are regularly maintained, as well as performing other administrative duties as required including monthly reporting of program statistics and qualitative content
  • Training, supporting, supervising, and evaluating the work of the volunteers and practicum students assigned to the program

You Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Social Work, Education, Child and Youth Care, Recreation, Kinesiology, or a related discipline; equivalencies will be considered
  • 2-3 years’ experience in delivering social, educational and/or recreational programs to at risk children, youth, and/or families in an urban or rural Indigenous setting
  • Knowledge of Indigenous community, culture, and protocols; community resources and supports in Calgary and Area; basic developmental need of children and youth
  • Interpersonal communication with children, youth and adults from Indigenous backgrounds and an understanding and awareness of cultural issues
  • Strong communication skills with ability to adhere to safety protocols and a strong ability to multitask 
  • Good understanding and able to appropriately apply behavior management skills with individuals and in group settings
  • Class 4 Driver’s License also preferred or Class 5 (non GDL) will be considered with plans to obtain a class 4
  • Current Standard First Aid/Basic Rescuer CPR certificate, cleared Criminal and Child Welfare Intervention Checks
