POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Part Time Program Leader is responsible for providing a positive and safe environment for the children and youth while in our Community Clubs.  The Part Time Program Leader’s primary role is to provide support with club routine, and design and facilitate daily activities in the following areas to help members develop a positive sense of self, and social and emotional competencies: physical literacy, creative arts, educational pursuits, recreational pursuits, positive lifestyle choices, and living skills programs.  Delivery and creation of high quality programming is fundamental in this role.  As well, this position is key in role modeling positive healthy relationships, and encouraging and providing time for children, youth and families to interact while in the program.  Together with the program team, volunteers, and practicum students, the Part Time Program Leader will ensure that the Community Club is offering programs, supports and opportunities that are reflective of the individual and community needs and are effectively integrated with other BGCC programs which are consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of BGCC. This position has varying hours during the week including some evenings and occasional weekends for special events.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:.  
  • Provide a safe environment for children, youth and families to be able to discuss their goals, feelings, needs and desires openly. 
  • Encourage and assist children and youth to develop skills needed to attain higher levels of functioning by helping them to set and achieve their goals.  
  • Work effectively with the staff team to meet the individual needs of all children, youth and families in the club. 
  • Be an effective, mature and appropriate role model to staff, volunteers and practicum students.  
  • Attend training opportunities as directed by Community Coordinator
  • Assist children and youth to develop and practice problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills that support relationships and life-long learning and success. 
  • Encourage children and youth to try new things on their own, and support them to initiate, plan and follow through on their activities.
  • Understand and adhere to agency policy and procedures. 
  • Assist the team in maintaining a clean and tidy work environment. 
  • Participate in supervisions with the Community Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A degree or diploma or currently enrolled, or have a minimum of 2 years experience working with children, youth and families; a preference of two or more years-experience working directly with children, youth and families.  
  • Must have experience in delivery of programs and knowledge of child and youth development needs. 
  • Strong problem solving, organizing, planning, time management and analytical skills. 
  • Proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as excellent oral and written skills. 
  • Interpersonal communication with children, youth and adults from diverse backgrounds and an understanding and awareness of diversity issues. 
  • Good understanding and ability to appropriately apply behaviour management skills with individuals and in group settings. 
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a variety of situations; ability to work independently or on a team
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is also required.  
  • A cleared criminal check with vulnerable sector search as well as a cleared Child Welfare Intervention check 
  • This is an active, physical job that requires the employee to have the ability to maintain a level of physical fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties (including things like lifting and running)-you must be able to participate fully with the children. We all play here!
Please Note: Successful candidates will complete criminal record check and child intervention record check at the time of new hire paperwork.  A criminal record check and child intervention record check dated within 6 months of the interview date will also be accepted.
