The Settlement Practitioner Community Bridging contributes to C.A.R.E.’s mission and vision by connecting immigrants and refugees with the community by overseeing activities and service delivery in the Maple Room, and promoting their participation in community group activities/services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Maple Room activities in order to recruit more clients to match them with appropriate activities within the Immigrant Centre. Engage in effective networking to build partnerships with other community service providers.
  • Coordinate and oversee all Maple Room activities while creating a safe, warm, and welcoming environment for clients and volunteers; liaise with Immigrant Centre staff.
  • Provide orientation and training for Conversation Circle volunteers including design of necessary training materials and manuals. Support volunteer recruitment and appreciation events to maintain good personal relationships with the program volunteers.
  • Arrange regular Conversation Circle group activities and recruit new clients for these activities.
  • Ensure accurate administration and reporting of client information and services provided Maintain required client and volunteer record keeping system; submit timely reports for the program as required by funders and management, including feedback from client and volunteers to ensure clients and volunteers satisfaction and initiate improvements where necessary.

Performance Indicators:

  • Number of clients being served per year
  • Number of client group activities within Conversation Circles
  • Number of monthly gatherings/activities
  • Level of client and community partners’ satisfaction with services provided
  • Accuracy of administration and reporting

Required Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of immigrant settlement processes and issues facing immigrants and refugees during their integration process.
  • Relevant education or work experience in client service provision
  • Certification as a Settlement Practitioner or committed to working towards certification within a reasonable amount of time
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with and engage the community
  • Group facilitation and project coordination skills
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently
  • Excellent communication and “people” skill to engage, liaise and maintain volunteers
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong admin skills to organize one’s work and records
