Volunteer Coordinator Downtown Community Court Program

Part Time: 25 hours a week, Monday-Friday 09:00-14:00 

Location: Vancouver


We are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator for our Downtown Community Court program which works in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside focuses on individuals with frequent contact with the Justice System due to the nature of their mental health and addictions. It seeks to provide offenders with the help they need to break the cycle.


Primary Purpose:

The role is scheduled around supporting volunteers who are assisting clients in the court daily (Monday to Friday). Though schedule is described as being daily from 09:00 – 14:00, hours will be flexible to support volunteers who cancel shifts between 14:00-15:00. The Volunteer Coordinator will also run/facilitate groups in the court.


Key Duties/Accountabilities:

Develop an ongoing plan for volunteer training, scheduling, and management including development of materials intended to support and build skills for volunteers. Oversees all aspects of volunteer programs with attention to confidentiality, safety for clients and volunteers, quality training and appropriate training of volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator will maintain any necessary budgets, reporting and statistics required.


Education and Experience:

  • A volunteer management certificate or 3 years volunteer training or management experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, women's issues, homelessness, mental health, and addictions
  • Clean Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector


Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor volunteers to achieve goals.
  • Strong recruitment experience and knowledge; communication, and problem solving skills for volunteer management.
  • Strong project and time management skills to ensure ongoing operations
  • Strong group facilitation skills
