Position Title:             Membership Sales Supervisor

Status:                        Full Time (40hrs/week)

Placement Date:        January 2018

Salary Range:             $15.00 – $18.00

Reports To:                 Centre Manager

Hours of Work:           Daytime, Evening and Weekend shifts


Purpose and Objective

Reporting to the Centre Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and of the Membership Sales Team with a focus on excellent customer service and meeting sales targets within the YMCA of Northern BC’s Membership Centre located in Prince George. The Membership Centre provides opportunities for all members of our community to be active and reach their potential through participation in YMCA programs and services. 


In this role, you will work with volunteers and staff to deliver front end member support, service, and sales. This position requires a strong understanding of customer service and a proven ability to drive sales within a team environment.


There is potential within this role of progressing to a coordinator level position.


Specific Responsibilities

The successful candidate can expect to spend approximately 75% of time in direct service delivery and support and 25% of their time on administrative tasks such as scheduling, membership sales and retention, reporting and other duties as required.


Coaching and support the staff team to provide quality customer service and meet or exceed established targets

  • Develops staff and volunteers through coaching and side by side support.
  • Participate in direct service delivery as needed
  • Liaison to resolve challenges
  • Ensure staff development plans are followed and monitored with specific measurements of success.
  • Coordinates with the Centre Manager to evaluate services on an ongoing basis, respond to emerging needs, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Report on statistics as required or requested.
  • Supports communication pieces as required

Supports and implements the annual plan for membership sales and retention

  • Meets or exceeds established targets for campaigns including phone calls, conversion rates and sales targets.
  • Evaluate team performance on an ongoing basis and responds to emerging needs.
  • Introduce creative and innovative strategies on an ongoing basis to enhance or improve quality and outcomes.
  • Co-ordinate and report on daily, weekly, and monthly statistics as required or requested.
  • Manages communication related to sales and services and facility operations as required.

Understands supports and actively participates in YMCA philanthropic initiatives.

  • Supports the delivery of processes and strategies that will increase the depth of involvement of each YMCA participant.
  • Actively engages with the community regarding recreation programs and services through special events, meetings, committees, etc.

Supports overall operations of a YMCA Membership Centre

  • Acts as a shift duty manager as required.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of the facility schedule, programs, services
  • Is responsible for the safety and security of members/participants.
  • Maintain current qualifications as required by this position and follow the YMCA policies and practices.

There is an expectation that supervisor will attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required.


Other related duties as directed by direct supervisor or another member of the YMCA Senior Leadership team.



  • A combination of experience and training related to sales and services.
  • Experience in membership-based sales will be considered an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Additional qualifications such as, YMCA Fitness Certification or equivalent, YMCA Trainer and/or Trainer Educator certification, Child Care Certifications, Coaching Certificates or experience are considered an asset.
  • Current first aid and CPR certification
  • Successful experience managing and leading a team of staff and volunteer program and service leaders

Project Resource Management: Ability to manage a project from initial planning to completion.


Planning & Organizing: Ability to establish a clearly defined and effective course of action for self and others to accomplish short and long term goals.


Problem Solving: Ability to identify an issue, gathers and processes relevant information, determines possible solutions, selects appropriate responses and implements and evaluates them.


Negotiation/Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Ability to speak, write, listen and secure information in a variety of settings. Demonstrate ability to cooperate with others to achieve results. Demonstrate ability to create and build relationships inside and outside the organization.


Strategic Planning and Visioning: Ability to visualize future direction and formulate strategies, plans, and action to achieve the vision.
