Cowichan Intercultural Society provides services and support to newcomers to Canada settling in the Cowichan Valley, and activities to create a more welcoming and inclusive community in which to receive newcomers.


The Development Coordinator will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations and community partners to allow for the sustainable delivery of our programs and services.  Adhering to the AFP Code of Ethics for fundraising, the Coordinator will uphold discretion, transparency and accountability.


The Coordinator is also responsible for marketing and promoting the Intercultural Society in the community, and serving as an ambassador for the organisation.


The ideal candidate will have:

 A proven understanding of intercultural and inclusive community;

 Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications;

 Demonstrated success in relationship building;

 Outstanding organizational skills;

 Demonstrated ability to raise funds, including a minimum of three years grantwriting/fundraising experience in a non-profit environment;

 Strong computer literacy;

 Research experience;

 Ability to work flexible hours;

 Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

 Post-secondary education (communications, marketing, business, public relations)

 Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a potentially distracting environment

 Ability to share our vision and mission, and engage others in support of newcomers to the region.


This position is 29 hours per week and requires flexibility of scheduling.

Job Description 



Sustainability Development - Estimated 70%

 Create and implement a Sustainability Strategy, including raising funds from sources including, but not limited to, individuals, foundations, corporations and community partners

 Provide leadership and direction for the coordination of fundraising activities

 Maintain a schedule of application and reporting deadlines

 Work closely with Intercultural Society staff in planning and assessing program needs 

 Work with and guide the External Communications, Events and Fundraising (ECEF) Committee to develop and pursue opportunities

 Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with funders, local government, community service and business partners, including donor appreciation


Marketing and Promotion - Estimated 15%

 Working with CIS colleagues, develop and implement a marketing strategy

 Development and implement recruitment and engagement strategies for donors and members 

 Event management as appropriate (ex. Fundraising or promotional events)

 Develop and maintain media contacts

 Develop marketing materials, working closely with the Communications Committee

 Serve as a visible and credible ambassador for the Society


Data Management, Analytics and Reporting  - Estimated 10%

 Maintain effective data management, including database of donors and members

 Analyze trends to continually improve effectiveness of strategies and plans

 Report to Executive Director, including financial and progress reporting

 Report to funders on spending as required, including narrative reports, financial reports, photo journals and so on


Other Responsibilities – Estimated 5%

 Participate in staff meetings and activities

 Participate in committees of the Board as appropriate

 Attend the Annual General Meeting
