The General Manager (GM) is the senior staff person responsible for the overall management of the operations of the District.

The GM leads a team of full-time, part-time and contract staff in order to achieve the objectives of the District’s strategic plan, in accordance with established District practices and standards, as well as the policies and requirements of governing organizations.


Experience and Qualifications

·         Post-secondary education preferably in sport management, business administration or equivalent combination of experience and education;

·         Minimum three years experience in a similar leadership role;

·         Demonstrated knowledge of universal sport principles, coaching, long-term athlete development;

·         Demonstrated knowledge of the non-profit environment, governance, policy development;

·         Strong leadership and team management skills, as well as office management experience including staff supervision, financial operations, etc;

·         A fundamental customer service orientation.

·         Strong communication skills, both written and oral;

·         Strong project management skills and knowledge of Microsoft suite of products, database programs, internet, email, social media;


As a condition of an offer of employment, the successful applicant must submit to a police records check and vulnerable person check.  



The GM is the senior advisor to the District’s Board of Directors on all matters related to District operations and is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board.


Key Responsibilities


1.      The development and implementation of the District’s operations plan and the achievement of the District’s strategic plan objectives;

2.      Supervising and leading the full-time, part-time and contract staff;

3.      Managing the day-to-day operations of the District’s office, contracts and agreements

4.      Developing the annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors , monitoring finances and submitting a monthly report to the Board;

5.      Managing special events;
Managing District inventories, equipment and supplies;

6.      Securing and servicing partners, sponsors, donors, etc.;

7.      Developing and implementing marketing and communication initiatives

8.      Administering and enforcing policies as approved by the Board of Directors;

9.      Volunteer recruitment and assignment;

10.  Advising the Board of Directors in areas of governance and policy development.

11.  Acting a representative of the District to: members, external partners (e.g. Ontario Soccer, Canada Soccer, other districts), governing agencies, etc.


The GM attends all meetings of the Board of Directors, members meetings and provides a regular report to the Board of Directors through the President.

Weekend and evening hours are possible requirements of the position.

Level of Authority

The GM is accountable for all full-time, part-time and contract personnel and reports to the Board of Directors through the President.

The GM has the authority to act and make decisions for the successful implementation of the operations plan, in accordance with established District practices and policies. The GM acts a spokesperson and signing authority for the District.
