Our Vision is Community Health through Mental Health. New View Society’s services are recovery focused and based on the philosophy of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, which puts the individual (not the illness) at the center of their recovery.

 

We are looking for a Community Mental Health Worker to join our team as part of our Clubhouse team.

 

Expected Start Date: Mid February 2018

Hours: 35 hours a week with flexibility to work evenings, weekend, and more hours as   required.

Compensation: To be determined based on experience and qualifications

Location: Port Coquitlam, BC

 

 

Job Summary:

 

Reporting to the New View Society – Program Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the day to day planning, implementation and evaluation of programs within the clubhouse. The goal of the Mental Health Worker is to involve members in all aspects of the Programs and support members in working towards wellness.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  1. Promote the program, goals and philosophy of the New View Society as required.
  2. Be sensitive always to the needs of the members. Observe, identify and report any changes in behavior or concerns of members to the Manager.
  3. Maintain a current knowledge of, and comply with, all organization policies and procedures.
  4. Effectively work within a team environment that encompasses all employees of the New View Society and supporting agencies.
  5. Participate in general staff meetings, training programs and appropriate workshops as necessary.
  6. Participate in all aspects of programming (Kitchen, Computers, Supported Employment, etc.)
  7. Ensure that all appropriate paperwork, record keeping, and reports (oral and written) are completed as required. 
  8. Transport members as required in Society Vehicle, observing all legal and safety requirements.  Advise the Manager of any concerns regarding the safe operation of Society vehicles.
  9. Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of rehabilitation through on-going professional development (minimum of 2 days/year).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Knowledge:

                                       

  • Diploma in social services or related discipline: minimum two-year course of studies.
  • Additional training in psychosocial rehabilitation an asset.

 

Other required certifications:

 

  • Food safe certification
  • Must have a current unrestricted Class 4 driving license and willing to drive 15 passenger vehicles.
  • Must hold current First Aid and C.P.R. Certificates.

                                            

Experience:                    

 

  • Knowledge of working with adults living with a mental illness: two years’ experience required.
  • Computer experience required, with knowledge of Microsoft Windows and specified software packages.
  • Comfortable in a kitchen setting, and ability to guide others through simple meal preparations, kitchen organization, and appropriate food safe practices.

Personal:

                                       

  • Must have excellent organizing and prioritizing skills.
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings & weekends.
  • Must be physically (ability to lift 50 lbs.) and mentally able to complete all required  job tasks.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to be involved in all aspects of clubhouse.
  • Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must have excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Must value and implement the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
  • Must be free of job related criminal record.
  • Must have the ability to work with co-workers in a team environment.
