Full-Time Indigenous Housing Support Worker, Home Fire 
Location: Renfrew Administration Building- Calgary

Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.
 
Home Fire provides Indigenous youth, ages 16 to 24, who are experiencing homelessness with a home where they can begin to heal, build community and reconnect with culture and family. Through this initiative, we endeavour to help Indigenous youth reconnect with or create their “Home Fire” by building community and family using a Housing First approach.
 
As an Indigenous Housing Support Worker with Home Fire, a typical day might include:
  • Advocating for youth and assists them in self-advocacy.
  • Working effectively with other members of the team to meet the individual needs of all youth in the program
  • Ensuring that youth know and have access to the tools needed to explore their own culture if desired by the youth
  • Recognizing the importance of family in each youth’s life and therefore ensures the inclusion of appropriate family members in goal planning
  • Encouraging and assist youth to develop skills needed to attain self-sufficiency by helping them to set and achieve their goals. 
  • Providing a safe environment for youth to be able to discuss their goals and concerns openly. 
  • Supporting youth to access community resources and assist with system navigation as needed
  • Assisting youth in developing problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills
  • Supporting youth in reducing barriers to employment and education
  • Supporting youth as they move into housing by modeling organizational skills and being available to facilitate moving.
  • Ensuring that all documentation is kept current, complete and professional.  Conveys pertinent information regarding youth to the team.
  • Assisting youth with meal planning, shopping and meal preparation.  Ensures the youth develop and maintain healthy eating habits.

You Have:
  • Diploma or Bachelors degree in a related human services or social services field
  • Two years’ experience working with youth or homeless populations
  • Current certification for First Aid and CPR 
  • A Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check*
*If the checks are older than 6 months, successful applicants will begin this process during new hire paperwork.
