The Youth Worker is responsible for the primary care, safety and development of the children/youth in the program. The Youth Worker will ensure that the program and services provided are relevant to the needs of the residents and that all residential components are effectively integrated with other BGCC programs and are consistent with the mission, values, vision and business plan of BGCC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implements routines and activities to provide a safe and secure milieu, which fosters family preservation and developments opportunities
  • Provides a safe environment for youth to be able to discuss their goals and concerns openly. Provides support specific to substance abuse and sexual exploitation
  • Assists youth in developing problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills
  • Supports youth in reducing barriers to employment and education
  • Responsible for the case management of youth, ensuring all basic needs and programming expectations are being fulfilled
  • Assists youth with meal planning, shopping and meal preparation and ensures the youth develop and maintain healthy eating habits
  • Assist residents in learning household management skills, such as cleaning, laundry, cooking, shopping, budgeting and yard work
  • Completes all case management reports, life skills curriculum and outcome measures for each key youth
  • Acts as a liaison between families, social workers, school representatives, doctors and other professionals involved with the child/youth
  • Maintains and develops relationships with external agencies/groups such as community associations, schools, law enforcement and social service agencies
  • Responsible for monitoring of clothing allowance, allowance, start-up, vacation recreation and gift monies for key clients


  • A degree or diploma in Human Services field (Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Justice Studies, etc) or currently enrolled, or have 2 years experience working with at-risk youth
  • Knowledge of PSECA Legislation
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification
  • Class 4 driver’s licence within 3 months of employment
  • Cleared driver’s abstract and liability insurance
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and a Intervention Record Check*

Please Note: Successful candidates will complete criminal record check and child intervention record check at the time of new hire paperwork.  A criminal record check and child intervention record check dated within 6 months of the interview date will also be accepted.
