For over 65 years, our programs have supported young graduates, immigrants, mature workers, the unemployed and the underemployed. With annual revenues of $13 million, our services are delivered in 9 Toronto locations by a dedicated team of approximately 170 staff including qualified employment counsellors, workforce specialists and psychologists, making JVS a well-known leader in this field.     

 

Our Toronto North Employment Services programs provide a range of services at one location, including information and referral services, one-on-one employment counselling, employment workshops and job development placement services.  We provide our services to a variety of clients and many of our clients are internationally trained professionals whom we help gain employment in their field.

Workforce Specialist, JVS Toronto North Services

Full-time/ One-year contract starting ASAP/ JVS North

The person in this position will:

  • Work as part of the Workforce Specialist team across the agency and the Newcomer Services team at North
  • Build strong relationships with and identify employers in the major industries who will provide opportunities to internationally trained newcomers
  • Conduct employer and community outreach to increase visibility for and jobseeker participation in the JVS North Programs including evenings
  • Organize and facilitate on- and off-site events such as hiring events, job fairs, info sessions, school orientations and networking panels
  • Deliver Labour Market related workshops and promote job development and other supporting services
  • Generate job leads and market participating clients to employers and advocate on the clients’ behalf; be comfortable with cold calling; provide culturally sensitive employment services
  • Match clients with suitable job openings and arrange interviews with employers
  • Maintain detailed employer and client records; enter all required information into database system
  • Negotiate ‘Training Incentives’ with employers and ensure that all necessary agreement details are finalized and documentation completed
  • Conduct on-site ‘Monitoring Visits’ to closely monitor subsidized job placements, both with the employer and client, providing assistance on work-related issues and job performance
  • Continually monitor labour-market trends; maintain ongoing, effective communication with clients, employers and the community
  • Participate in outreach to new and existing community partners; participate in outreach to potential clients

Please note that flexible hours/evenings/ weekends may be required.

 

You have a social science, business, marketing or similar degree or diploma from a recognized university or community college together with a minimum 1 – 2 years’ relevant work experience, including a track record in business development, sales or outreach.  You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and are able to prepare and write reports.  You can apply your knowledge of the labour market, organize your work, manage your time, and meet targets and deadlines.  You communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and personalities including community professionals, clients, colleagues, staff, volunteers and employers.  You have a valid Ontario driver’s license with the use of your own vehicle. Experience placing internationally trained professionals is an asset.  A Police Vulnerable Sector check may be required for this position.
