Position Title:               School Aged Care Leader

Terms:

Part-Time – Monday to Friday up to 21 hours/week; afternoon shifts

 

Full-Time – Monday to Friday; 30 hours/week; morning & afternoon shifts

Location:

Salary:

$13.00 – 14.00 per hour

Situation

The YMCA of Northern BC serves 20,000 people of all abilities, backgrounds, and stages of life in

Prince George and Northern British Columbia. We are a growing, multi-service association that offers health, fitness, and recreation, licensed childcare, rehabilitation services, community support services, and summer camp.

Purpose and Objective

Our Child Care Division is the largest provider of licensed child care in Prince George. We serve over 400 children during the school year between the ages of six months and twelve years at eight licensed child care facilities throughout Prince George. An additional 800 children participate in our summer care programs, Pro D Day activities and school break programs.

 

To provide effective leadership in the School Aged Care Program by working in a team environment; planning and implementing a fun, safe educational program for school aged children following the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Northern BC ; and the standards mandated by the Province of British Columbia, Community Licensing.

 

Key Detailed Functions (but not limited to):

To read, understand and follow all YMCA, Child Care Facility Licensing (CCFL) and legal requirements, and YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum standards.

  • To interact directly with the children, providing quality care.
  • To assist with the planning and implementing of a consistent child-centered program, in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • To establish and maintain positive daily communication with families.
  • To maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all activity and program areas, common spaces, and washrooms.
  • To ensure that all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained according to licensing and YMCA requirements.
  • To release children only to those authorized by parent/guardian.
  • To maintain confidentiality of all information related to the center, the children, their families and staff.
  • Other duties as required

  • Ability to identify an issue, gathers and processes relevant information, determines possible solutions, selects appropriate responses and implements and evaluates them.

  • Ability to identify the needs and wants of members/participants as priority and respond in an effective and timely manner to enhance every person’s YMCA experience.

Initiative/Enthusiasm/Innovation

  • Ability to develop and adapt existing ideas to improve and enhance the program. Challenges the status quo with curiosity, drive and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 19 years of age or older – (per licensing)
  • Completed the Responsible Adult Course or a combination of courses in child development/guidance/health, safety and nutrition (training available)
  • Physical ability to perform the tasks
  • Three satisfactory references
  • Current childcare approved First Aid and CPR (training available)
  • Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector search

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to customer service
  • Maintain regular attendance, punctuality and dress appropriately
  • Ability to attend YMCA training and staff meetings as required
