The Tenant Support worker provides a range of support services to clients who are currently homeless, facing homelessness or newly housed. Working closely with the outreach team, the Tenant Support Worker assesses incoming housing referrals, provide house management services, and support clients to live successfully in the community by determining appropriate individual needs. This can include referrals to ongoing community supports, advocating on the client’s behalf in an effort to gain access to appropriate assistance, and providing a variety of day-today- physical, emotion and social supports, advocacy, life skills assistance, information and resources. The Tenant Support Worker’s role includes basic First Aid as necessary and is responsible for the general daily operations of varied sites including cleaning of office area, common areas and washrooms; preparing space for new tenants, assisting with move in and outs, distribution of health/hygiene products, and maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and residents. The Tenant Support Worker provides supportive feedback, demonstrations, modeling, and behaviour management to clients, their families, and their personal networks, to assist with the development of physical, social, emotional, and life skills such as maintaining personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, meeting financial obligations, making and keeping appointments, and interpersonal skills. Our ideal candidate would also have a wide range of moving skills that include, physical lifting, packing, moving clients & their household/personal belongings.



A Diploma in community social services or other relevant training. One year of related experience with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness and/or social services.Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A valid BC Driver’s License, Clean Criminal Record Check, Food Safe, Current First Aid and CPR certification are required.

  8. Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
  9. Advocacy skills to assist clients with problem solving such as landlord-tenant disputes, financial assistance, accessing community resources, and obtaining volunteer or work placements
  10. Ability to work positively, patiently, and proactively with all clients, including those who may demonstrate a range of difficult behaviours including hostility, indifference, anger, extreme dependence
  11. Ability to intervene in crisis situations, including de-escalate verbal aggression, hostility, suicidality, mental and physical health crises
  12. Working knowledge of the principles of harm reduction
  13. Knowledge of the diagnosis and resources in the areas of mental health, substance use, physical health, including HIV and Hepatitis C.
  14. Carries out administrative transactions such as petty cash, client accounts, collecting rents and money from clients for personal items, completing forms and making deposits and withdrawals.
  15. Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as care plans, progress reports, statistics, and daily logs.
  16. Observes clients, identifies and assesses potential emergency situations, and develops short-term strategies to deal with such situations. Reports medical, behavioural, and other problems as required. Provides feedback and input regarding clients’ needs, performance, and progress.
  17. Basic household construction skills. Including repairing, lifting, household fix-ups & cleaning as required.
