The Director, Finance & Operations (DFO) holds primary responsibility for the financial, risk management, information technology, human resources and administrative functions of United Way.  They are a member of the senior leadership team and provide strategic leadership for all responsible areas.  They will directly influence and participate in the day-to-day operations, budgets and long range planning for the organization.   The DFO will serve in an advisory capacity to the CEO and Board of Directors as required.

 

This is a permanent full-time position that is responsible for:

  • Participating on the senior leadership team and providing strategic leadership  to ensure organizational success;
  • leading the organization’s financial and risk management functions;
  • managing all human resources duties at an organizational level;
  • overseeing all information technology and administrative requirements for the organization;
  • leading the developing and reporting on annual operating plans, budgets and financial statements; and
  • contributing to the organization’s ability to deliver and tell United Way’s story in an effective manner that resonates with stakeholders and inspires them to take action.

The successful candidate will have:

  • CPA designation with 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience;
  • proficiency in Word, Excel, Sage 50 and experience in managing a CRM database;
  • strong people management with experience building, motivating, mentoring and coaching a diverse team of staff and senior level volunteers;
  • highly developed technical and analytical skills with ability to use expert level judgment for strategic thinking and problem solving;
  • proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure;
  • excellent teamwork, interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively in a diverse team environment;
  • the ability and desire to engage and mobilize individuals and organizations around social issues in our community and United Way’s mission;
  • the ability to develop and execute strategies to meet the organization’s strategic priorities;
  • the ability to work individually and as part of a team;
  • excellent time management, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • desire to work in a highly collaborative environment; and
  • the ability to respect confidentiality and be bonded.

Priority will be given to candidates who have experience in the not-for-profit sector.   Experience working with volunteers, fundraising and knowledge of United Way systems and procedures is an asset.
