Position Title: Community Animator (Bloggurls Program)

Start Date: March 1, 2018

Rate of Pay: $18/hour

Reports To: Girls Program Worker

Hours: Part-time (approximately 4 hours/week) 6 months contract with a possibility of renewal

Location:  NYCH offices; Charles H Best Middle School

The Community Animator will provide planning and program support for the afterschool Bloggurls Programs for girls aged 9-13 years old at Charles H Best Middle School. 


Position Summary:


Main Responsibilities:


Planning & Program Delivery

  • Assist in planning and carrying out activities and program events that are culturally sensitive and appropriate for the physical, intellectual, and social development of girls (aged 9-13 years)
  • Assist in all program/activity preparations, purchasing of program supplies, set up and clean up
  • Provide support to Girls Program Worker, and others as needed such as guest facilitators, school staff supporting the program, youth mentors, and volunteers
  • Understand and adhere to health and safety requirements in setting up activities and program space
  • Supervise participants at all times and respond to emergency situations quickly and appropriately
  • Attend to the physical and emotional needs of participants in a culturally sensitive way
  • Communicate with parents around program information, and respond to any questions or concerns or refer to Girls Program Worker when necessary
  • Participate in NYCH trainings and meetings as required
  • Additional support and duties as required


Documentation and reporting   

  • Record and submit program attendance, registration and other reports, as required
  • Submit receipts, ttc records, and other documentation to Girls Program Worker
  • Produce statistical and narrative reports at the end of each session
  • Provide information and feedback to program staff based on program observations
  • Submit timesheets regularly and on time

Position Requirements:




Pursuing secondary education or post-secondary (college, technical institute, university) education in social services, social sciences, or gender/women’s studies


Experience and Skills


  • Previous experience working with, and facilitating participants ages 9-13, particular in youth leadership programs
  • Experience supervising volunteers
  • Experience working in multi-racial and marginalized communities
  • Highly motivated, positive attitude and ability to work well in a team
  • Responsible, dependable and punctual, with ability to communicate timely with staff and supervisor
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good computer and data-entry skills, and willingness to learn new multi-media tools
  • An updated police reference check will be required upon employment


  • Resident of Westminster-Branson
  • Experience working with girls
  • First aid/ CPR training
  • Oral and written communication skills in other language(s)

Typically works regular hours from 2:30 or 3:00 pm to 5:30 or 6:00 pm.
