Finance Officer (6-month contract)

 

Reporting to the Grants Compliance Manager, the Finance Officer is part of a cross-functional project team responsible for quality implementation of complex multi-million dollar grant funded projects. The Finance Officer’s role within the Programs & Strategic Initiatives (PSI) team will be to assist the team in ensuring the financial health of assigned projects and their compliance to donor and CCFC requirements. The Financial Officer will also contribute to proposal development and the coordination of other team efforts.

 

This role includes, but not limited to:

  • Assist in the tracking of project expenditures and contracts ensuring they are in compliance with terms and conditions of donor agreements
  • Follow-up and track project reports from different teams and do initial review of variance analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of management spending/burn rate reports as needed
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of project budgets, forecasts and financial reports ensuring alignment with project activities, proposal requirements and contract terms.
  • Assist in desk or program audit as appropriate in coordination with the Grants Compliance Manager
  • Ensure project supporting documents for audit readiness are properly filed and stored
  • Coordinate and assist in the planning for and development of proposal by tracking timeliness, assisting in research, compiling reports, checking donor requirements, etc.
  • Assist in the annual analysis for the budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes relating to Global Operations, including developing financial and management reports from the accounting system
  • Assist in the compilation of quarterly PSI reports and annual budget developments
  • Maintain project management software for new and ongoing projects (MS Project)
  • Maintaining timelines and coordinating with partners and in-country project staff on deliverables
  • Assist the PSI team in reviewing and maintaining disbursement process for Programs and Country Offices
  • Other related duties as assigned 

Required qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in a related discipline preferably in Accounting/Finance
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ relevant work experience in Accounting/Finance or project management
  • Technical knowledge of accounting rules, practices, principles and controls
  • Proven experience in data analysis and problem solving
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and achieving service level agreements
  • Strong inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work confidentially with sensitive financial information
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Multi-tasking to meet set deadlines including reporting timeline
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and accounting applications; experience with custom applications is an asset
  • Experience working with Quickbooks and INTACCT is an asset
  • Project/program management and proposal development experience preferred
  • Ability to speak and/or write in either French or Spanish will be considered an asset

Term Contract: The position is for a 6-month contract, with the possibility of an extension.
