Fund Development and Communications Coordinator

 

Parkinson Association of Alberta is the voice of Albertans and their families living with Parkinson disease.  Our purpose is to ease the burden through advocacy, education and client services; and to find a cure through research.


Parkinson Association of Alberta (PAA) is looking for a full-time (35 hours) Fund Development and Communications Coordinator who has strong marketing and communications skills, who is self-motivated, highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will have a background in fund development and communications & marketing - with strong writing skills, expertise with graphic design/digital media, social media and responding to general inquiries from the public.

 

Fund Development

  • Reporting to the Fund Development Manager, develops and executes an annual Fund Development Plan and Budget with achievable, measurable objectives and fundraising targets, and with an emphasis on long-term and short-term individual and corporate donations.
  • Takes a proactive leadership role in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of individual and corporate donors.
  • Prepares and/or coordinates all fundraising initiatives including research, solicitation, execution and analysis.
  • Continuously explores alternative funding sources and new models, which will attract additional support to the association.
  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers.
  • Will collect statistical information under the FD portfolio of PAA.
  • Other Fund Development responsibilities as required.

Marketing and Communications

  • In consultation with the CEO & the Marketing & Communications Lead (Edmonton office), develops and implements a Marketing and Communications Plan.
  • Researches, creates and coordinates the content of Parkinson Association of Alberta’s website and social media, ensuring the content is current and consistent with the integrated communications strategy.
  • Writes and distributes press releases and public service announcements; coordinates media inquiries and public speaking.
  • Responsible for the creation of print and multimedia materials used for promotion of PAA, based on the Marketing and Communications Plan.
  • Supports the integrity of PAA’s brand ensuring consistency in the development and distribution of all marketing and communication elements.
  • Researches and creates written materials including business communications, marketing materials, presentation scripts and contributes to the association’s quarterly magazine, Parkinson Pulse.
  • Works with external vendors to develop and produce marketing material to support PAA programs.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of special events, conferences, and other such initiatives.
  • Liaises with our corporate partners in promoting their support of PAA programs.
  • Fosters relationships with community organizations, schools, program partners, volunteers and other stakeholders that support our strategies and objectives to expand the reach and depth of our educational and farm safety programs.
  • Provides delivery support of PAA’s proprietary programs and community-based programs.
  • Flexible approach to dynamic work environment by taking on special projects and other activities related to delivering on the Parkinson Association of Alberta Mission.
  • Will collect statistical information under the MarCom portfolio of PAA.
  • Other Marketing & Communication responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Post-secondary graduate with a degree or diploma in Marketing Communications, Public Relations, or Non-Profit Fundraising and at least 5 years of experience in the industry.
  • Proven track record of successful fund development, meeting or exceeding projected goals.
  • Proven experience creating and effectively managing events and budgets.

Abilities/Competencies/Knowledge

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexible, able to adapt to new and different tasks.
  • Both a team player and independent worker.
  • Task and detailed oriented, strong prioritization skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal attributes, ability to create relationships in rural/urban/corporate/not for profit environments.
  • Creative, out of the box thinker.
  • Proven research, writing and editorial skills for both print and multimedia.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies, practices and media operations, including web and social media
  • Ability to manage the production of print and multimedia materials and conduct feasibility studies for selected projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Artez, CMS Tools and Hootsuite/Social Media Management Tools an asset.
