Hamilton & District Extend-A-Family (EAF) is a non-profit community service, providing social opportunities and friendship to children with special needs while providing respite to their families.

 

EAF is seeking a volunteer Board Member who is passionate about giving back to the community, meeting like-minded professionals, and gaining experience in the area of not-for-profit governance.

 

As a member of the Board you will utilize your existing skills to support the organization’s work and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by EAF’s Executive Director, the Board-Executive Director relationship is a partnership, and the Board Members serve as trusted advisors who assist with the development and implementation of the strategic plan.

 

Role:

  • Utilize experience and expertise to provide guidance and direction to the Executive Director
  • Organize fundraising initiatives that credibly solicit donations from organizations or individuals
  • Act as an advocate and ambassador for Extend-A-Family to secure partnerships and resources that will advance the organization’s overall mission
  • Monitor the organization’s programs and services
  • Ensure strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
  • Assist in short-term and long-term strategic planning
  • Review and revise governance policies
  • Be actively engaged and able to dedicate time each month for meeting preparation and attendance

 

Qualifications

  • Management or professional experience in either fundraising, communications, public relations, legal, accounting, finance, marketing
  • Strong communications skills
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Inclusive team player
  • Experience serving on a non-profit Board or willingness to learn about non-profit governance

 

Additional Information

  • Time commitment is approximately 2 hours per month
  • The Board typically meets every third Tuesday at 6:30pm
  • Term length is a minimum of 1 year
