Deltassist is hiring two permanent Full-time (1.0 FTE) family counsellors to be based out of our North Delta Office, one Monday to Friday and one Tuesday to Saturday. These positions will start as soon as possible.

JOB SUMMARY

Deltassist is a mission-driven, community-based, non-profit society and the incumbent in this position must be able to commit to the Mission and Values of the Society, and work within a child/family centred, strength-based, service model.

 

Work with families to develop, implement, and evaluate the most effective intervention plan in order to ensure the safety of children, the family, and the community.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Screen, assess, and provide interventions for clients (children/youth/families) referred from both MCFD and the community through a variety of established intervention techniques in order to resolve any issues of safety that would prevent a child from being maintained in the home of their biological parent or guardian.
  • Provide an array of in-home services such as: education, counselling, skills training and development, and direct support to families with the objective of empowering clients to become more effective parents. Use a variety of methods to achieve this objective such as: teaching, modelling behaviour, setting concrete, realistic, achievable goals and direct actions (facilitating clients accessing appropriate medical care, food banks, transportation), and advocating on behalf of clients for resources and services.
  • Provide services within an ethno-cultural framework, ensuring that the family’s culture and values are seen as strengths and are integrated into service plans.
  • Where appropriate, work with the family and the Ministry of Children and Family Development to develop a family intervention plan with mutually agreed upon goals which are related to the family’s current level of functioning, the family’s agenda for change, and areas that need to be addressed.          
  • Provide links to other services offered by Deltassist Family and Community Services or other service providers, as needed.
  • Participate as part of an Integrated Case Management team, where appropriate, to support the goals and needs of families and children.
  • Provide evidence in court, as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation of services provided, planning activities, and other continuous quality improvement processes
  • Complete all documentation in the time frame and format required
  • Perform other duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:  BA or BSW or equivalent in education and experience

Specific training in child and family development

 

Experience: 2 years experience in family counselling, parenting education and support, crisis intervention, risk assessment, substance misuse issues.

Experience working in environments employing Integrated Case Management, Strength Based Approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Techniques, BC Risk Assessment Model

Experience doing outreach work in client homes and the community

Demonstrated assessment skills, service plan development and implementation skills

 

Other: Ability to work independently, and as part of a multidisciplinary team, within an organization that requires flexibility, initiative, creativity, and demands individual accountability.

Familiarity with the BC Risk Assessment Model, the “Integrated Case Management Model” and “Strength Based” Assessment Intervention Approaches.

Ability to manage stress effectively

Ability to use a computer effectively to provide clear, thorough documentation of intervention process and to meet other established documentation requirements

Use and maintenance in safe operating condition, of own automobile to meet service requirements.
