Youth and Family Empowerment Coordinator

35 hr/wk

 

Foundry Abbotsford will be a one-stop-shop that provides primary care, mental health, substance use, social services, and more for Abbotsford youth. The partnership between co-located agencies will ensure youth can access a variety of resources in a timely and supportive manner and will allow the centre to efficiently respond to enquiries and referrals. The development, implementation, and ongoing operations are a shared partnership between service providers, youth and families to ensure the Hub is providing efficient and effective services to help-seeking youth and families.

 

The Youth and Family Empowerment Coordinator will support youth and families in navigating the system to find support and connect them with the appropriate resources including what to expect when receiving services.  The Coordinator, in conjunction with the peer support worker, will identify youth and parents for the operational leadership table and leadership advisory council and will offer support to youth and families at those tables. The Coordinator will be familiar with youth engagement strategies, Family Smart and youth-adult partnership principles and integrate those into Foundry. The Coordinator will ensure youth and families are engaged in all aspects of Foundry.    

 

Job Summary:

  • The Coordinator will network, build relationship, and engage youth and families to be involved in all aspects of the Hub.
  • The Coordinator will, in conjunction with youth and families, be part of developing job descriptions and other role descriptions for youth and family leadership.
  • The Coordinator will support youth and families to navigate services to ensure they receive effective services in a timely manner.  
  • Supervise the peer support workers.
  • Help with fundraising initiatives, especially those initiated by youth and families.
  • Organizing events to raise community spirit and awareness.

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with youth and families facing multiple barriers and ability to build relationships with these youth and families
  • Strong networking skills with service providers, youth and families
  • Strong organizational and people skills (time management, ability to work independently and with a team, diplomacy, facilitation, ability to lead and support others to lead)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to respond in a positive way to demanding issues and project a welcoming, friendly, personality
  • Undergraduate degree in public health, social work, child and youth care, sociology, communication or allied field.  

Other Requirements:

  • Criminal records check
  • Use of personal vehicle (class 5 License)
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR (Child and Adult)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training (CPI)
  • Flexible work schedule
