The Vancouver Island Mountain Centre is a non-profit entity of the Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society located on beautiful Mount Washington, Vancouver Island, that provides funding and support to island mountain sports athletes and clubs, accessible outdoor programming and educational opportunities, group accommodation for up to 40 people and a public fitness centre, VIMC Fitness.  We are looking for individuals interested in seasonal work on Mount Washington guiding groups of 15-50 in outdoor programs that are outcome focused and fun at all ages.  If you are a reliable, friendly, patient and motivated self-starter who has a passion for teaching basic outdoor skills and activities while interacting with people of all ages then we want to hear from you.    

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Lead or co-lead Centre outdoor programs in a safe, friendly and knowledgeable way.
  • Prepare gear and perform safety checks on equipment prior to programs. Follow up with organising/cleaning and inventory checks.
  • Perform incident reports as required and report back to manager on outcomes.
  • Develop program outlines with Manager as needed.
  • Support Manager with occasional maintenance tasks around centre during down times; e.i. shoveling walk ways and other exterior areas.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated experience or education in the areas of outdoor guiding, recreation, working with or teaching children and youth, or other related combination of experience/education.
  • Experience and knowledge of working or guiding in a winter environment.
  • Passion for the outdoors and wildlife.
  • Friendly, outgoing and patient disposition.
  • Strong multitasking skills in a high speed environment and the ability to use initiative and attention to detail to create a world class environment and experience for our guests.
  • Occupational First Aid Level One or higher. AST1 Certificate considered an asset.
  • Current Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have reliable vehicle or transportation to and from the mountain.
  • Must have reliable phone number.
  • Must be available Weekends, Weekdays and Holidays. Flexibility of shifts for those with a second job.
  • Must be physical fit in order to carry job requirements, with the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
