Position Title:             Childminding Program Supervisor

Status:                         Full Time (30-40 Hours/Week)

Placement Date:         February 2018

Hourly Rate:               15.00 - 18.00 based on qualifications and experience

Reports To:                 Centre Manager

Hours of Work:           Daytime, Evening and Weekend shifts


Purpose and Objective

Reporting to the Director of Membership & Programs, the successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and delivery of YMCA Childminding program within the YMCA of Northern BC’s Membership Centre located in Prince George. The Membership Centre provides opportunities for all members of our community to be active and reach their potential.


In this role, you will work with volunteers and staff to deliver Childminding services while parents access other YMCA programs and services. YMCA programs and services are values based and focused on encouraging all participants to reach their potential. Childminding services will:

  • follow YMCA Playing to Learn Curriculum where possible and utilize the YMCA’s Healthy Child Development framework and YMCA SAM Standards to provide high quality care.
  • create safe and welcoming spaces for children and their families to support the social, physical, and emotional development, fostering a fun and engaging learning environment.

The successful candidate will be able to relate well to children, youth and adults in a positive, caring and respectful manner. This position requires a strong understanding of the Early Years (0-6 years of age) and Early Childhood Educator experience and education is an asset.


Specific Responsibilities

The successful candidate can expect to spend approximately 90% of time in direct service delivery and support and 10% of their time on administrative tasks such as scheduling, reporting and evaluation and other duties as required.


Coaching and support the staff team to provide quality YMCA Recreation Services

  • Develops program staff and volunteers through coaching and side by side support.
  • Liaison to resolve challenges between staff, volunteers and participants.
  • Ensure staff development plans are followed and monitored with specific measurements of success.
  • Coordinates with Director to evaluate services on an ongoing basis, respond to emerging needs, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Report on statistics as required or requested.
  • Supports communication pieces as required
    • Current YMCA certification in Healthy Child Development is an asset.
    • Additional qualifications such as YMCA Trainer and/or Trainer Educator certification, Child Care Certifications, Coaching Certificates, or experience are considered an asset.
    • Current first aid and CPR certification
      • Understands supports and actively participates in YMCA philanthropic initiatives.
      • Supports the delivery of processes and strategies that will increase the depth of involvement of each YMCA participant.


      Ensuring YMCA programs and experiences are safe.

      • Is responsible for the safety and security of members/participants.
      • Maintain current qualifications as required by this position and follow the YMCA policies and practices.


      Attends staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required.


      Other related duties as directed by direct supervisor or another member of the YMCA Senior Management team.



      • ECE Certification or an ECEa Certification will be considered an asset.
      • Experience related to supervising and coaching staff would be an asset.
      • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search

    Service Strategy: Ability to identify the needs and wants of members/participants as a priority and respond in an effective and timely manner to enhance every person’s YMCA Experience.


    Initiative/Enthusiasm/Innovation: Ability to manage and lead to achieve and exceed identified goals.


    Planning & Organizing: Ability to establish a clearly defined and effective course of action for self and others to accomplish short and long term goals.


    Problem Solving: Ability to identify an issue, gathers and processes relevant information, determines possible solutions, selects appropriate responses and implements and evaluates them.


    Negotiation/Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Ability to speak, write, listen and secure information in a variety of settings. Ability to cooperate with others to achieve results. Ability to create and build relationships inside and outside the organization.
