Position Statement:

 

Under the direction of and reporting to the Manager, Communications, this position will develop, implement and support London Public Library’s corporate website, intranet, and digital communications and media initiatives. The successful candidate will work with the Marketing and Communications and IT teams and with designated staff to ensure the development of consistent, reliable, accessible, high quality digital projects.

This position will work with designated staff to develop and execute digital projects that support Library strategic objectives.

 

This position works closely with IT staff on the back-end support side of digital projects and with Marketing and Communications staff on the design of user interfaces, content and visual elements, including those for desktop, web, and mobile devices.

 

 

Accountabilities

 

1)  Website/Intranet/Mobile/Social Media

  • Under the direction of the Manager, Communications, and working collaboratively with the Information Technology Services (IT) team (under the direction of the Director, IT) and the Marketing and Communications (M&C) team, develops, designs, updates and maintains digital platforms such as the library’s website, intranet and social media platforms. Provides support for e-mail marketing services.
  • Collaborates with designated staff and departments to define needs, solutions and requirements and to ensure sustainability.
  • Under the direction of the Manager, Communications and working closely with the M&C teams, takes the lead in sharing content on corporate digital and social media platforms in accordance to existing standards and guidelines.
  • Works with Manager of Communications and designated staff to support the development of social media communication.
  • Monitors for and ensures compliance with system wide standards, as determined by the Manager, Communications and provides training to support successful social media participation by designated staff.
  • Under the direction the Manager, Communications continues to enhance site design, construction and navigation by maintaining LPL digital platforms.
  • Works with designated staff to develop online workflow.
  • Continuously researches technologies, media and communication strategies and shares information and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

2)  Quality Assurance and Innovation

  • Collects, monitors, analyzes and reports usage and performance statistics (e.g., Google Analytics, social media analytics.)
  • Ensures consistency, accuracy and quality of all elements on digital platforms, including social media platforms: usability, visual design, content, and branding.
  • Ensures that design of platforms and content on digital platforms, including social media platforms, meets or exceeds legislated requirements such as copyright, AODA and W3C guidelines, CASL and MFIPPA, and also meet corporate records management and security requirements.
  • Monitors for and ensures compliance with system wide standards, as determined by the Manager, Communications and provides training to ensure content creators meet legislated requirements and corporate standards. Ensures content is optimized, accessible, accurate and user-centered.
  • Investigates and recommends innovative strategies for social media and digital communications and keeps abreast of trends, opportunities and emerging platforms.

 

 

3)  Technical Support

  • Consults, advises, and trains designated staff in the use of digital platforms. Seeks feedback to ensure user satisfaction and functionality.

 

 

4)  Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Works closely and collaboratively with the M&C and IT teams in all stages of development and support of digital communications initiatives.
  • Collaborates with designated staff and departments to define needs, solutions and requirements of digital communications initiatives and to ensure sustainability and the achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Communicates technical ideas effectively with staff across a range of departments and service areas.
  • Participates actively as a member of the M&C team to develop and execute corporate marketing and communication plans, campaigns and projects, including photography and video projects.
  • Represents and promotes LPL and the M&C Department at internal and external activities in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
  • Regularly seeks out feedback to ensure user needs are being met.

 

 

Qualifications 

 

  • Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in web development.
  • One year of demonstrated success in web development.
  • Proven experience as team member contributing to web and development projects.
  • Demonstrated ability using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability using HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated ability using Content Database Management Systems. (Drupal experience is preferred.)
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating a variety of social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.
  • Demonstrated ability to write for corporate marketing and communications and for the web.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey issues and technical and creative concepts at various levels.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively and to be open to feedback.
  • Affinity for user-centred design principles.
  • Keen interest in learning about and using new tools, digital strategies and emerging technologies.
