Are you an energetic individual who would enjoy working in beautiful Kananaskis all summer?  Would you like to be involved in providing Calgary's children and youth a fun summer camp experience?


Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.


Camp Adventure is located on 64 acres in the heart of Kananaskis Country and provides residential camping and outdoor experiences for children and their families. The mission of all of our programs is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life.


As a Program Counselor with Camp Adventure, a typical day might include:

  • Overseeing three specific program areas:
    • Water Safety and Swimming (National Lifeguard Service Award required)
    • Canoeing (Canoe or Paddle Instructor Level Certification required),
    • Wellness and Restoration (Experience in mindfulness, yoga or meditation with children and youth required).
  • Design and implement age-appropriate progressive program planning for specific program areas with the purpose of fostering growth and development for campers.
  • Maintain a safe, fun and supportive environment for campers in program at all times.
  • Create a positive, trust-based environment focused on teaching skills and knowledge to campers while supporting and enhancing their experiences.
  • Work effectively with co-counsellors and fellow program staff to create a welcoming and nurturing environment for campers throughout their week long experience. 
  • Communicate expectations and lead fellow staff to assist as necessary with program implementation

You Have:

  • Proof of Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search required for employment.*
  • Completed, or working towards a degree/diploma in the field/s of Recreation, Education, Social Work, Childcare or related field is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Current standard First Aid and CPR-C or willingness to obtain prior to the start of camp.
  • Experience evaluating, leading and supervising programs.
  • Experience living/working/recreating in a wilderness environment.
  • Skill specific certifications required (such as National Lifeguard Service Award, Paddle Alberta/Canada certifications, Advanced Wilderness First Aid, Outdoor Council of Canada, etc.).
  • This is an active, physical job that requires the employee to have the ability to maintain a level of physical fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties (including things like lifting and running)-you must be able to participate fully with the children. We all play here!
