Are you an energetic individual who would enjoy working in beautiful Kananaskis all summer?  Would you like to be involved in providing Calgary's children and youth a fun summer camp experience?

 

Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.

 

Camp Adventure is located on 64 acres in the heart of Kananaskis Country and provides residential camping and outdoor experiences for children and their families. The mission of all of our programs is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life.

 

As a Senior Staff with Camp Adventure, a typical day might include:

  • •Step into the role of a Program Counsellor or Tipi Counsellor as required.
  • Act as the lead staff member on site in the absence of the Camp Coordinator.
  • Provide effective direction and information to the staff team regarding routines, schedule, activities and opportunities on a daily basis.
  • Aid counsellors to identify and manage potential risks to a camper’s emotional or physical safety.
  • Overseeing one of three teams:
    • Counselor in Training (CIT) Team Lead
    • This position will be responsible for overseeing the Counselor in Training (CIT) program at Camp Adventure, which is a program for youth ages 16-17 to build leadership and wilderness skills while acquiring High School credits. *As the CIT program starts in early June out of our Calgary main office, this person may be required to start earlier than the dates posted above.
    • Out-Trip Team Lead
    • This position will be responsible for overseeing all out-trips that take place both within the Camp Adventure property and in the surrounding Kananaskis area. As the Out-Trip Team Lead, this person will be responsible to ensure all out-trip equipment, food, and sites are prepped and ready in a timely manner. Wilderness specific certifications will be considered an asset (Wilderness First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue Technician, Outdoor Council of Canada Trip Leader Level 1, etc.).
    • Program Team Lead
    • This position will be responsible for overseeing all on site program areas, activities, and special events. They will be accountable to ensure Program Counselors are prepped and ready to run their designated programs.

You Have:

  • Proof of Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search required for employment.*
  • Completed, or working towards a degree/diploma in the field/s of Recreation, Education, Social Work, Childcare or related field.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Current standard First Aid and CPR-C or willingness to obtain prior to the start of camp. Advanced or Wilderness First Aid or greater considered an asset.
  • Experience evaluating, leading and supervising programs and staff.
  • Experience living/working/recreating in a wilderness environment.
  • Skill specific certifications (such as National Lifeguard Service Award, Paddle Alberta/Canada certifications, Outdoor Council of Canada, etc.).
  • A current Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving record, Class 4 driver’s license considered an asset.
  • This is an active, physical job that requires the employee to have the ability to maintain a level of physical fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties (including things like lifting and running)-you must be able to participate fully with the children. We all play here!
