Full-Time Youth Employment Coach
Location: Calgary

Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.
Pursuit is an employment resource for youth (involved in a Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary Youth Housing and Shelters program) who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
As a Youth Employment Coach with Pursuit, a typical day might include:
  • Develop and complete program intake with youth and develop individualized work experience plans based on the needs of the youth 
  • Advocate for youth and assist them in self-advocacy
  • Assist youth in learning about strategies for job searching, creating cover letters, resumes, and interviewing skills
  • Develop and maintain a system of data collection to reflect youth attendance and performance to support evaluation activities and submit a progress report to the Program Manager 
  • Ensure that there is opportunity for every youth to have one to one time during the week
  • Support the youth in the transition to other interventions and supports when applicable
  • Convey pertinent information regarding youth to the team in a timely manner 
  • Incorporate a trauma informed perspective in the design and implementation of activities and supports 
  • Manages crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills

You Have:
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related human services or social services field
  • Three to five years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience working with one or more systems ( e.g. Youth Justice, Children’s Services, Education, Health, community agencies) 
  • Experience and enthusiasm in working with youth and communities
  • Valid Class 4 driver’s licence within 3 months of employment, acceptable Driver’s Abstract, and access to an automobile 
  • Driver’s insurance with at least a $2 million third party liability insurance with permission to carry passengers for work related purposes
  • Current certification for First Aid and CPR level C
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the youth
  • Ability to work with and support people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as work independently and be self-motivated
  • Innovative, energetic and creative with a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of young people
  • Has an extensive understanding of street youth and the multi-faceted issues they face
  • Knowledge of Calgary’s local labour market and career development strategies 
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check*
