Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.
 
The Stampede Work Experience Program gives youth the opportunity to gain experience and employment skills as they work on the Stampede Grounds in cleaning crews. We are looking for supervisors to lead our crews on the ground! The Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is committed to providing deserving children and youth with hope for the future.  We provide a supportive environment in which to share your experience, develop your skills, and take on new challenges.
 
As a Stampede Adult Supervisor with Stampede Work Experience, a typical day might include:
  • Interviewing and hiring crew members
  • Informing all applicants of employment status
  • Assisting in a pre-Stampede training session with youth
  • Supervising workers throughout entire shift ensuring work is done properly
  • Reading from and recording all incidents in the log book daily
  • Evaluating workers on scheduled days
  • Keeping updated time sheets for crew members and self
  • Serving as a trouble shooter on the grounds, guiding crews to necessary areas
  • Enforcing all rules consistently every day
  • Providing positive reinforcement for crews
  • Maintaining standards set out in policy regarding behavior and appearance of crews
  • Instructing crews on safety, weather and performance policy
  • Ensuring cleanliness of designated facility and proper care of equipment and supplies
  • Following Alberta Labour Standards requirements regarding each crew
  • Wearing the approved uniform of blue jeans, running shoes, name tag and supervisor’s t-shirt (sleeves rolled down), and cap
  • Responsibly and reasonably providing for the safety and well-being of the youth assigned to their crew
  • Providing recommendations for improvement of program
  • Working closely with night crew between 9pm and midnight (if applicable)

You Have:
  • Able to work all 11 days of Stampede
  • Willing to attend a Stampede training seminar, youth interview sessions, and youth training nights.
  • Must be physically fit and in good health
  • Must have experience supervising youth
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and able to provide direction
  • Able to motivate workers in a disciplined, fair manner
  • Willing to set a good example
  • Able to work well with others
  • Able to evaluate workers’ performance and provide objective feedback
  • A Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and cleared Intervention Record Check*
*If the checks are older than 6 months, successful applicants will begin this process during new hire paperwork.
