Social Architects

Job Purpose

Autism Edmonton’s Occasio Program is designed to allow individuals diagnosed with Autism to become comfortable with themselves, people their age and the world around them. It also facilitates learning the necessary skills to be able to function in our society as an independent being with confidence. Social Architects are the front line workers of this program and are in direct contact with the participants. The Social Architect is responsible for facilitating social and life skill opportunities for program participants, as well as creating a safe and enjoyable environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Lead Social Architect in the planning and facilitation of scheduled activities
  • Ensure the safety of all participants during activities, including drop-off and pick-up times
  • Create positive life experiences and opportunities for youth and young adults on the autism spectrum
  • Be involved in the group and/or individual behaviour management and support
  • Engage in pre/post activity discussions with co-workers and the Occasio Coordinator to develop plans to best support program participants
  • Provide guidance to participants for the support of their development of social awareness, social thinking, and life skills
  • Support Autism Edmonton with initiatives and events, as required

 

Qualifications

 

  • Interest in the improvement of community is a core value that Autism Edmonton seeks in all employees
  • High School Diploma (some post secondary education is an asset
  • Previous experience in youth or disability programming would be considered an asset
  • A commitment to deepening one’s understanding of autism and the intent to support the success of each individual
  • Strong written/verbal communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and mediation skills
  • Comfortable in an advocacy role
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Independent worker and strong team member
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR, Non Violent Crisis Intervention and Positive Behavior Support is an asset

  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends in various environments
