ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Strategic Partnerships, the Strategic Partnerships Officer will work in collaboration with Hospital, Medical and Research Institute staff to understand the needs, opportunities and priorities where philanthropy can play a role. You will write compelling and inspiring fundraising cases for support, proposals and accountability reports and ensure impeccable donor stewardship through effective project management of donor funded initiatives.

 

More specifically, you will:

 

  • Build strong and collaborative relationships with Hospital, Medical and Research Institute staff to understand the needs, priorities and opportunities where philanthropy can play a role.
  • In partnership with the hospital, on an ongoing basis, create a comprehensive list of fundraising opportunities.
  • Work with philanthropy staff to help match donor interests with approved fundraising opportunities.
  • Write customized, and compelling fundraising cases for support, proposals, and stewardship reports to inspire donors.
  • Ensure that all fundraising opportunities are approved by Hospital and Research Institute leadership prior to being presented to a donor.
  • In partnership with internal and external stakeholders and utilizing project management methodology, ensure donor funded initiatives are well planned with clearly articulated results and deliverables.
  • Assume a project management lead role on select, key Foundation-led initiatives.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, funding commitment letters and other key financial aspects of managing initiatives supported by philanthropic investments.
  • Attain subject matter expertise and mastery in a wide range of clinical, program and research areas.
  • Understand complicated medical and technical terminology and have the ability to translate it into compelling and easy to understand language.
  • Collaborate with internal partners such as Donor Relations, Legacy & Leadership, Corporate, and Community Giving to ensure the best possible match for donor interests.
  • Participate in strategic planning, development and implementation for all fundraising opportunities.
  • Work to integrate policies and processes to ensure effective collaboration with all key stakeholders.
  • Educate staff on fundraising opportunities.

 

 

ABOUT YOU

As the ideal candidate, you are a gifted writer, storyteller and skilled project manager with exceptional communication and collaboration skills. A strategic thinker with strong decision-making and negotiating ability enables you to analyze, plan, initiate and complete projects in a timely basis. You are a team player with a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with a broad range of people. You embody BCCHF’s values of: excellence, collaboration, accountability, integrity and innovation.

 

In addition, you will have:

 

  • Diploma or Degree in Fundraising, Journalism, and/or Business Administration.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience with specific experience in writing, project management, and ideally working in a complex hospital fundraising environment.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is preferred.
  • Strong and effective project management and budgeting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software is an asset.
  • Raiser’s Edge 7 or other database experience is an asset.
  • Or the equivalent combination of related skills and experience.
